Freezer stash question

I have about 500 oz in my freezer stash (stand alone unit in the garage) and hope to BF for 1 year. DD is 4.5 months old now and just starting a tiny amount of solids. I'm currently a SAHM, though I hope to take a 3 month EMT program starting in January. It's 2 nights + an 8 hour Saturday every week; I'll be able to pump at breaks. I'm probably going to start looking for a part-time nursing assistant or EMT job in 4-6 months.

Is my freezer stash is enough?  Should I just start maintaining it now (using older milk & replacing w/ pumped?)  WWYD?

Thanks!!!

Re: Freezer stash question

  • As long as you plan on continuing to pump, 500oz is more than enough.  I have a huge freezer stash and I donate all of my older milk when I fill the freezer.  I EP and I produce more than LO needs everyday so I have never had to use any frozen.  If you plan on using the freezer stash though, I would start rotating it.

  • It definitely sounds like enough if you plan to continue to pump. Although keep in mind frozen BM is only good for 6 months. So I would start rotating and using some of the older stuff. Or like the PP said, you can donate it if hasn't been 6 months.
