So Annabelle has her first ear infection. Her Pedi gave her some meds for 10 days. I'm hoping it clears up and she starts to feel better. She has gotten her appetite back, but she has been very clingy since yesterday. It looks like we may be canceling all our plans for the weekend. Normally how long does ear infections last? I was reading up on webmd and it looks like it could take a few days or even a few weeks. My poor baby.
Re: Ear Infection
my sister's kids used to get ear infections all the time, and she still brought them to our house for holidays and visiting, and she lives about 4 hours away. I think worst case one time, she ended up taking her daughter to an immediate care place when she was getting worse.
It depends on the infection on how long it lasts and whether the medication will help it. I wouldn't cancel Thanksgiving plans, especially since you said her appetite is coming back. After about a day or two the antibiotics should work.
I'm not canceling T-day all together. My family still wants to come. It's my SIL and her babies I'm worried about. By the time dinner rolls around, she will only a day and a half of meds in her. I did informed them of her ear infections.
Thanks ladies for reassuring me. Like I said this is all news to me. I didn't even go to the doctors appointment today, DH took her.
In general ear infections are not contagious. Now if it it is oozing and DD sticks her finger in her ear and then sticks her finger in her cousin's ear, yes she could pass it, but it's HIGHLY unlikely.
Generally you get ear infections becuase the inner ear isn't draining properly. The fluid sitting in the ear gets infected when the warm moist place becomes a breeding ground for germs.
Evie is on week 6 of a persistent ear infections. We have been referred to an ENT. She'll likely need tubes in her ears once they finally get this cleared up. She has been a bit moody and a little more clingy, but she hasn't had to stay home from school.
Oh no poor Evie. I hope some the ENT can do something.
Yesterday wasn't to bad, just a little clingy, which was nice for some of my family. They ate her up, cuddled with her. She was smiling by the middle of the day, talking up a storm and just loving it. I hope that the meds kick this ear infection.
Avery just had her first ear infection as well. She showed no major symptoms but I saw she had dried blood to the outside of her ears probably from digging into them. She is on the antibiotic for 10 days and she's better but the meds give her the worst diarrhea!
Hope Annabelle feels better soon.
I hope you had a great Thanksgiving anyway! LO had an ear infection for about a month. I didn't know he had it until his fever wouldn't break and he was super cranky. We took him to Patient First and found out he had a double ear infection. He was on Amox for 9 days, took him back to the docs, STILL HAD IT. They put him on a strong medicine, 8 days later...STILL HAD IT! I was so frustrated because my baby was in so much pain. Finally she put him on something for 5 days...it has finally cleared.
This is NOT typical, LO just had a raging ear infection. Now that the ear infection is done, he has a nasty runny nose...ah ya ya!
I hope by now she is feeling better. I remember I was always famous for getting sick on holidays when I was little! At least she sounds like she felt better. A little clingy when there are lots of arms is not too bad! These days they are so busy!
It just stinks to have them unhappy for any reason.
