    It is different for everyone. Your dr. will go over it with you when you have your baby and give you the warning signs.

    It is a depression specifically linked to the physical and emotional changes that come after a baby is born (it is called ante or peri-partum depression if it occurs while you are still pregnant).

    From what I know it can be Hormonal, Situational or a combination of both.  the hormonal is from your body's reaction to the changes in chemicals / hormones while situational can be related to your environment, baby's behaviour, PTSD, etc.
