New to The Bump

Newbie with PCOS

Hello ladies~

I just wanted to introduce myself. DH and I are both 26. I have been on the knot for a year and a half until we got married on November 6th. I am so excited to start TTC, we have been since October and I was diagnosed with PCOS in February of this year. I am currently on 2000mg of Metformin and my OB said that if we aren't pregnant by March that she will put me on Clomid. Just wondering if there are any others with PCOS that can share some encouraging stories or just want to talk because we can relate. I am new to all the BBT and monitoring everything so I feel dumb like I don't know what I'm doing. So it would be nice to have some ladies to vent with and encourage along the way. Hope to hear from you soon. TIA!

Re: Newbie with PCOS

  • Hi and welcome.

If you haven't already, I'd suggest picking up a copy of Taking Charge of Your Fertility and/or signing up on fertilityfriend.com and going through their tutorial. Very helpful.

If you're going on Clomid, I would make sure your ob is going to monitor you. If not, it might be time to see an RE (reproductive endocrinologist) who has a better change of monitoring you and working with you as you TTC.

You may want to check out the getting pregnant boards, or even the IF board. The IF board is very helpful in terms of technical advice about medications and success rates.

    GL to you!

  • I am new too! And I was also diagnosed wiith PCOS years ago. I tried the Metformin and it did not work for me. I was unsure if I wanted to go through fertility treatments and just sort of stopped worrying about it for a while. Fast forward a few years and I am a proud mom of a four month old baby boy! Just wanted to say you never know! Good Luck to you!
  • Hi there! I also have PCOS and have been on Metformin for years (mainly for weightloss though) This summer because I was using Metformin and lost quite a bit of weight and kept myself on a well-balanced diet and was very active, I was able to conceive without any treatments. We had actually decided to stop trying for a while when we actually got pregnant, so it can happen! Good luck!
  • I have PCOS also. I got off of birth control in June 09 and never started a period. I was diagnosed with PCOS in Dec. 09. He started me on clomid imediately, I did two rounds and still didnt ovulate. I decided to quit trying with Clomid and to lose a little weight. In Mar. 09 I went to another doc. who put me on metformin 500mg 2 times a day. I took it kind of faithfully. LOL! I really missed like a whole month but I lost about 25-30lbs and started having a period again in Sept. 09 . I had 3 periods and just found out I am about 5 weeks pregnant. I am really feel like a little bit of weight loss and a lot of Prayers helped me out.
