We are at my IL's this week for Thanksgiving. Delaney is about half/half with table food/baby food, so I didn't pack much for her - figured I'd feed her as much table food as possible. For lunch today I was giving her some yogurt and since she's loved eating pickle spears, I gave her one of those tiny sweet pickles to munch on. She bit off a bite, then another -and I realized she had not swallowed the first bite. So I took the pickle away - she started crying and when she inhaled, she inhaled a piece of food. I could tell right away because she was weezing. I immediately sprung into action - pulled her out of her high chair and turned her over while DH swept her mouth and she spit out the pickle. My IL's were sitting at the table, but I had forgotten they were there until I had D sitting on my lap, crying and my MIL made a comment that she didn't know who was more upset (me or Delaney). With that, the tears just started coming....I think because the adrenaline had worn off. It's funny - I hadn't had an infant CPR course since I was in nursing school a bazillion years ago, but my instincts (and DH's) kicked in immediately.
Note to self - no more pickles....at least until she gets more teeth.
Re: Delaney choked today :-(
Oh, MAN! So scary! Good instincts, though, and hurray for Delaney being okay!
With Margaux the huge pickles are pretty good. We don't even cut them. She doesn't have the teeth to take any kind of chunk off, she just noms it to death.
That is very scary, any mom would've reacted the same way to mil's comment. So glad you were able to help her.
That's so scary! Miller is still only on baby food for this reason. He chokes on puffs! UGH!
Good job, Momma!
I'm so glad she's OK! How scary!

OMG - how scary! My heart was in my mouth just reading this. Glad she is okay - even more glad that your training kicked in. This type of situation scares the heck out of me. I hope I could react as well.
