I was at the vet today and this lady who looked just as pregnant as I am was there with her two boys (around 4 and 7). The youngest one was acting like a typical 4 year old running around, and being slightly obnoxiuos. She asked him to sit down and he said "NO!" then she grabbed him, smacked his butt and said "when we get home you're getting hot sauce!" The older one then chimed in and said, "yeah, and in your eyes, not your mouth!"
um.....WTF! I felt like I should have called child services!
Is this some kind of false threat or do these kids really get hot sauce in their eyes when they misbehave!

That's still awful.
I don't see this as acceptable either!

That is my thought, too.
ETA- I am not into corporal punishment, so it wouldn't be an option in my house.
More Green For Less Green
On last week's SuperNanny that was the discipline of choice for the dad. Although it was mouth not eye. Maybe it is today's eating soap?
My 2 1/2 year old can be a brat, today for example, but i would never even consider hot sauce as an option. That is just ridiculous.
Exactly. I'm sorry but eating soap does not physically harm you. It may be emotionally scaring, or make your mouth taste bad, but it definitely does not hurt! And, I am assuming that when eating soap the child is holding the soap and putting it in their mouth (at least that's how it was at our house) And it was only like a lick or small bite. With the hot sauce I'm picturing this lady holding down a screaming, terrified child. Plus hot sauce stays on your tongue for a LONG time. Poor kids.

No, I am really hoping that she does not actually put it in their eyes, but I don't think it should go in their mouths either.
And when the older one made that comment she replied to him "You shut your mouth or you're getting it too"
It just made me sad for the kids, either the mouth or eyes, I feel like there are better ways to discipline a child.

Actually, a couple years ago a mom gave her daughter soap. The daughter had a severe reaction and ended up in the ER. The mom is in jail. However, hot sauce will not physically harm the child. It burns for a minute and then it's gone. I had a friend who gave her kid hot sauce when he was bad. Then followed it with milk. He's fine today and is a good kid. It's a punishment that fits the crime. Besides, time outs don't work for every child.

GAH that makes me SO mad!
My friend has 4 kids.
She and another mom let their kids play between their houses ( they live about 3 houses away). Her 4 year old was walking to the friends house, in his underwear, with his mom watching him from the window. Some lady in the neighborhood called CPS.
She was in the front room watching him walk 3 houses down the street to his friends house. Yep, neglectful mom right there.
I have agree either way that is not the way to discipline a child.
How are you sure about that? Unfortunately, some parents are crazy and kids are abused terribly.
My parents used to put hot sauce on my thumb to get me to stop sucking it. It didn't work; I just sucked until the hot sauce was gone.
