Vitamin D

So, girls... If you are tired - and it's not just from not sleeping, muscles feel week, joints some times ache and or your AFs are from hell....Get thee to the doctor and get your Vitamin D checked. especially if you live in a northern climate, have dark skin and or don't drink milk fortified w/vit. D.

There is a Rx for Vitamin D that is amazing. I feel like a new woman. My (new) doctor just put me on it and I am feeling so much better. My old doctor let me linger for over a year like this.

I go yammer on and on - but seriously, if you feel like poo and you don't know why cause you are generally healthy, ask your doctor. :)

Re: Vitamin D

  • You're spot on - there's tons of research that shows most adults are vitamin d deficient.  I've been taking it with my daily vitamins, calcium and fish oil for several years now.  Glad you're feeling better!

  • That's great that you are feeling better! Glad you switched doctors and figured out the problem.  Interesting post, I just had my OB test me for hypothyroid and Vit D deficiency since I am fat and tired.  Both came out fine, sucks cause now I need to suck it up and go on a diet.  But the Vit D deficiency is pretty rare around here since we get over 300 days of sunshine a year (even though it's ass cold!)

Sadly, I knew the problem for the whole year. I told my doc to test me when I realized I had all the symptoms and had elimiated dairy due to Maddie's allergy. The DB doctor would just WOULD NOT prescribe for me and taking 25 vit D pills a day wasn't an option. She suggested I take 1000 a day... uhhh, really??/ So I took 3500. It went from 13 to 22 in 3 months.. true, I was getting results, but nto fast enough and it was costing an arm and a leg and I was choking down 4 pills a day, as opposed to 1 pill 1 X  a week for about 5 bucks. Anyway, she and I went round and round and she gave me lame ass incorrect excuse after excuse until I finally had enough and switched. I don't switch docs every time I don't get the script I want, but for the love of gawd, decide a "reason" and stick with it and get your facts straight... My doc tested my thyroid too. They always do, even though it is always fine.

Sorry you didn't have an 'easy fix'.

  • I may need to check into this!  I am hypothyroid and just had my blood drawn again today.  If it comes back in normal range, then I will suggest it!

  • At my last physical, I was told I was borderline low. So, I now take Vitamin D with my multivitamin.
  • Yes!! And there's so much research now that suggests a vitamin D deficiency has a role in a host of illnesses. My D was low at my last physical, so my doc gave me a mega-dose Rx that I take once a week for 4 months (then I'll get tested again). They (whoever "they" are) are also likely to increase the RDA of vitamin D since so many adults are deficient.

  • Really?  I never even thought of a vitamin deficiency.  Thank you for sharing - I will need to check my milk.  For the life of me, I don't know if it is fortified - lol.

I know it's crazy all the stuff *they* are finding - from belly fat to cancer....
