Ugh I feel aweful. I gained 15 pounds and I'm only 19 weeks and I was overweight PPC already. I feel like the worse mother to be ever. i've been eating relatively healthy but eating way too much and I stopped exercising. So I plan to start counting calories and execrising to stop any addiitonal weight gain. What else should I do? Would it be safe to try to lose a few pounds like (3-5)? The worse part is that the holidays are coming which is going to be twice as hard but I guess I will just have to deal with it since I put myself in this position. I can't believe I let myself do this. I just hope the baby is healthy.
Re: Gained too much weight!
I am in the same boat... up 15 pounds (likely more by now). I asked if this was bad and my doctor said it was fine. I went from hitting the gym 3-4 times a week to practically nothing and all I could eat in 1st tri was bread and peanut butter.
I have cut back on snacks. If I want to have a snack I stop and make sure I am actually hungry. When I am hungry I will always eat as that is my body telling me I need food. But, I am eating a lot more veggies and fruit as snacks as opposed to bread and crackers. I know I am going to gain weight and I know it will be a battle after the baby arrives and stressing about it now won't do me or the baby any good. As long as my doctor is ok with it then so am I.
So, you are definitely not alone and unless there are health issues I wouldn't worry about it.
Try not to be too hard on yourself. Unless you fell into the category where you are only supposed to gain a total of 15 lbs, I think you are already. My recommended gain was 25-35 lbs and at 20 weeks I was at 12 lbs, so my dr said that I should consider myself "halfway" there. If you gain another 15 lbs through the end, you're still in a 30 lb weight gain which isn't bad! Do not try to lose weight, but watch your calories (don't obsess and eat if you're hungry and make sure you ask your OB what your target should be). If you've been snacking on high calorie items (even healthy ones), try to add in snacks like carrots and red pepper sticks. I think it's hard not to gain weight because I'm starving all the time and I can only eat so many vegetables!
During the holidays, have a little bit of your favorites, just don't overindulge. I think it's going to be extra hard this year because like I said, I am constantly starving!
I gained over 50 lbs. with DS and was never told that my weight was a problem. I think if you're not sick in 1st tri you tend to start gaining weight earlier, but it levels off later on.
Be healthy now, but don't worry about losing weight until after baby comes!
I am 21 weeks and have gained 17lbs... I am not stressing too much about it at this moment... if I gain 1lbs a week from now to delivery... I still will have only gained 36lbs... which is less than what I did with my first pregnancy (40lbs). If you are eating healthy, just start watching how much you are eating. Try walking, parking further from the mall or place you are going... just be a little more conscious. Don't stress too much!!

If you keep eating healthy and exercising and stick to the gaining one pound a week goal from here on out, I think you're fine. I have gained SO much weight (I didn't even want to mention it here when people were talking about still wearing their regular clothes, etc.). I honestly think I started gaining weight before *I* knew I was pregnant.
In fact, the day I took a pregnancy test, I had gotten dressed to go to the gym (I was normally running three miles a day then), and then I just felt *weird* and *starving* all of the sudden, and the next thing I knew, I wasn't headed to the gym; I was on the couch with a plate of toast and eggs. I immediately took a home pregnancy test because I couldn't figure out what else would make me do that.
I think I'm one of those women who is just going to gain a pound a week throughout--even during the first trimester. Some of my friends who are petite like me said that happened to them. My doctor hasn't said anything about my weight at all, and I was worried about it because women in town refer to her as the "Weight Nazi." I'm just going to make sure to keep doing my regular work out regimen (four day a week dance classes) and then really work on healthy eating and a lot of walking, etc., once the baby's here.
Mac and cheese lover!
I wish I had your doctor! Lol! I am 19 weeks, just got back to my pre-preggo weight, and the doc is telling me to slow down on gaining! (I lost about 10 pounds in my first trimester)
I have gained 15lbs at 20 wks, and all my midwife said was that my food diary was "excellent" and she never tells this to anyone - I am a vegan, and I don't really know where the weight came from, but definitely not worried about it! I want LO to get all the calories she needs!
Don't stress:) Everyone is different!
