Parenting after 35

I got a job!!!

I'm so happy, I finally got a part-time job starting in January. Rate is decent and I will be working as a desingner in a magazine, in a shiny new office not far from home. It's only 15 hrs a week but I might be able to arrange my schedule so that DH can go to work later on those days and we might not even need child care after all. That will save us a ton of money.

DH is not as excited as me b/c he really wants me to work full-time so I can bring in more money. But he doesn't realize that sometimes FT doesn't equal more money b/c you spend a huge chunk of your income on daycare.

I'm excited and I get to enjoy being with LO full-time until after the holidays. I hope the job works out and I like it there.

I had to share this ASAP with you all, especially since you know how stressed over money I've been Big Smile

Me: 44 DH: 42. DS born healthy at 40 weeks 8/24/09. TTC since then with no luck or ART. Surprise BFP 8/6/14... MMC @ 8 weeks 4 days... Miss you everyday sweet baby angel.

  • That is AWESOME! Congratulations that you found such an exciting position.

I agree that sometimes you make as much or more at the end of the day with part time, esp. if you aren't workinf gor benefits. It also is nice you get to ease into working.

  • That is fantastic news!  Congratulations!! I'm sure DH will come around once he sees how much difference your income will make, especially if you can arrange things so you don't need child care.

Yes, that's what I'm hoping. We will keep our lifestyle the same so we can use the xtra money to pay off a couple credit cards and put money back into savings. In this economy I'll feel better if we have a cushion in case DH loses his job, which hopefully he won't.

  • That is wonderful - congrats!  How exciting - it sounds like a lot of fun.  I can understand why DH might not be as happy, but you are totally right.  If all of yoru salary goes to pay daycare, then is it really worth it?  And who knows - maybe they will love your work and offer you more hours or maybe to work from home.  I've really happy for you!
  • I definitely understand how good it feels going into the holidays knowing you have a job waiting for you. Congratulations!
