Give me some book recommendations for my Kindle

And if you want to include a little blurb about the book that would be great.  I need something to read at work.  I got called to work for 2 weeks in Dec, and the office is pretty slow so I need something to keep busy.

Re: Give me some book recommendations for my Kindle

  • "The Help" was really good.  It is about african american house workers in the 50's

"Snow Flower and the Secret Fan" was really good too.  It's about two Chinese girls who go through foot binding and their relationship to one another.

"The Book of Negroes" was really good too and a fast read.  It is also known as "Someone like Me"  Some people didn't like the original title so it was changed.  That one is about a girl taken from her village in Africa and being forced into the slave trade.

    I second both of these!

Have you checked out the free classics? I've read a lot of those on my kindle.

Or for something lighter all of Nora Roberts books are available ;)

  • Have you read any Janet Evanovich books?  She has a numbers series (One for the Money, etc.) that is really funny and a light read so would be good for work/being interrupted occasionally.

  • I love all of Marian Keyes books (especially the set of sisters, there are 5).  They are all light reads but super funny.

"Naptime is the New Happy Hour: And Other Ways Toddlers Turn Your Life Upside Down" by Stephanie Wilder-Taylor is a great multi-tasking book.  Funny commentary on toddlers, no plot line to stay with.

I'll 3rd "The Help".  FANTASTIC book.

Sinead Morarity is another funny, Irish author with great books.

Maeve Binchy writes some great books (one was an Oprah book club, maybe "Tara Road").  They are great rainy day books (you know, from when before we had kids and could read a book all day on a rainy day)

"The 19th Wife", David Ebershoff is a good book.

Love all of Emily Griffins stuff.

    Chelsea Handler's books are funny.

Love, LOVE jennifer Weiner's books.  Have 3 on my Kindle, including "Fly Away Home".

"My Sister's Voice" by Mary Carter was good.

Elin Hilderbrand writes great kill-it-in-one-afternoon reads.

    HTH!
