Trying to Get Pregnant

TTC and Baby Movies

So DH and I finally set up our wireless internet and our Wii and since he had to work last night I decided to browse around Netflix. I ended up watching the documentary Babies and The Business of Being Born.

I told myself I wouldn't watch either until I was KU put couldn't stop myself. I ended up crying through most of them and feeling like I should start planning what kind of birth I want even though I am not even pregnant yet.

Anyone else watch Baby Movies while they are TTC or do you not even go there yet. Am I being a little nutty planning a birth before being pregnant? lol I feel like I am putting the chicken before the egg.

Re: TTC and Baby Movies

  • I wouldn't got so far as to say that I've planned anything, but I do watch the occasional baby show (like I'm pregnant and...) and I've thought about it.  I won't make anything final until I'm KU, had a couple of u/s's done talked to my OB about it.  You never know what could happen... you may find out that you HAVE to have a c/s when you had planned on having no drugs before.

  • I'm really trying not too.  I tend to get really fixated on any new "project" I have in mind.  With wedding planning, this kinda spoiled my engagement.  I had already done all the research by the time I got the ring!

For pregnancy, I'm being very strict with myself.  No buying books other that TCOYF, no lurking on other boards (except baby names, my one indulgence).

I really want to see that documentary, but I will wait!

  • Netflix also has a National Geo. movie called The Science of Babies (I think).  We just watched it.  MH is learning a lot from all of it.  He has yet to watch the Great Sperm Race though.  Wish that was on Netflix.

I don't see the harm in being informed.

I did the same thing! I guess I am a bit neurotic when it comes to planning. lol

  • I watched Babies for entertainment value. I watch A Baby Story, and other baby shows. None of them make me want to plan a future birth. They certainly don't make me cry. Do I want a baby? Yes. But I don't avoid seeing them on TV or IRL.

I don't get what needs to be planned about a birth. I know the basics (hospital, c/s preferred but definitely epi for a vag birth, no forceps, only my husband in the room), but I don't see the point in nailing down specifics until I'm in that position. Honestly, I'm not even sure what else goes into a birth plan other than what I listed.

  • Welcome, fellow newbie!

I dunno - I'm all about information gathering & have a tendency toward hyper-planning. Personally, I haven't started planning the birthing process because I don't trust that I'll feel the same when actually pregnant. Not sure if that helps any...GL!

  • I watched the Great Sperm Race on youtube last week-- takes a while to load, but the whole show is there, FWIW.

Edit: Oops I meant to quote the above person who wished this was on Netflix.
