Trying to Get Pregnant

Okay, here's a question...

Because I was reading a blog, and I've seen this in this forum before too.

If your average LP is 10-11 days... I see people in here all the time saying that they tested early, because their LP is short... (like they expect that because their LP is shorter, they would be able to tell if they're pregnant sooner?).. so they test at 8-9dpo because somehow a 10 day LP would indicate earlier implantation....

I am under the impression that if implantation occurs from 6-11 dpo in general, that would be regardless of the length of your LP, so testing early because your LP is short makes absolutely no sense at all.

Please someone correct me if I'm wrong, but it just drives me a little batty when I see that comment as an excuse to test early.

Thoughts?

Re: Okay, here's a question...

  • I must confess that I actually believed that. Embarrassed

Although to be honest, I probably would have tested early no matter how long my LP usually is.

  • YNK, I think you're right. I'm by no means an expert but I'm fairly certain that ladies with a short luteal phase don't implant any earlier than ladies with a longer one.

That's why testing early is the debil! DevilStick out tongue

Yup, I agree with all of this!  I have a short LP and I didn't test early but I never really had a full 2ww until recently.

  • YNK, I was thinking this exact thing this AM.  My LP is 10-11 days, and I was wishing and hoping and praying that I could use that as an excuse to test early.  However, everything I've read says generally that implantation happens between 7-10 DPO.  I've never read any qualifiers on that statement for women with short LPs, so I don't think it matters.

It's too bad. Sad  On the plus side, I never waste tests, b/c AF always comes before I think I'd be justified in testing.  The only month I tested, AF came 3 hours later.

That happened to me last cycle, which was so unfair because for the first time EVER.. I had a 14-day LP, so I thought FOR SURE I was pregnant... and as SOON as I tested on CD14, AF showed up litterally 5 minutes later!!! Very frustrating.

I know!  That cycle, for me, was one of my harder ones.

Tell me - how did you get to a 14-day LP????  I'm on B6 now, which has gotten me from 9-10 day LPs to 11-day LPs, but I can only fantasize about a 14-day LP.  The B6 lengthening my LP is a mixed blessing, b/c, like you said, the first time you get to a longer LP, you think you're definitely pregnant, so the blow of a BFN or AF is that much harder.

It had to have been the Clomid, because other than that, I did absolutely nothing.

So you were ovulating on your own, before Clomid, but with a short LP?  My doc has mentioned putting me on Clomid for this purpose, but it's very exciting to "talk" to someone who has already done it!

I didn't always ovulate on my own before Clomid. The times that I did ovulate on my own, I had a 10-day LP, but I'd start spotting at 6dpo. I was actually taking Clomid as a first step in attempting to deal with PCOS, but one of its benefits was that it did in fact lengthen my LP. :)
