Still sick - going to the pedi (TMI)

I hate feeling like I am overreacting but Matty has been "pooping" water for the last three days so I made an appointment today.  No fever and he acts fine but he hasn't been eating at all.  Six blowouts yesterday. sigh.

I know the pedi is just going to say to let the virus run its course but at least I won't worry as much.

  • FWIW, it took DD a week to shake the stomach bug and that seems to be the norm for infants.  definitely take him in but I think you might be right about what they'll say.

  • I hope this won't be the case for you but the only way for Sabrina to get rid of the blowouts was to completely stop all dairy products except for yogurt. It took almost two months to learn this (she would be OK, we'd give her milk-based formula and BAM loose poops) and really clear whatever it was that was in her out but now we're finally back to OK and she's on day 3 being back to milk-based formula after being off of it for almost three weeks.

  • Well, at least you can get him seen before the holidays and they can check him for dehydration and give you some things to watch for. Better than waiting until everyone is closed over Thanksgiving and its a huge PITA to get him seen  to be told that it's a virus.

This. M's poop didn't get back to normal until nearly a week after he got sick.

Good luck Amy! And I hope Matty's better soon!

  • I'm sure the pedi will say he's fine but a visit will put your mind to rest.

Thanks for asking Amy - Matty has the rota virus (yuck!) and I am freaking out over how he could have gotten it. It appears it is super common for kids to get it but still.

The doc put him on Pedialyte for the next day or two and then onto the BRAT diet for the rest of the week.  No turkey dinner for Matt!  We are going to try soy milk once his diarrhea is under control.

I am so glad we got Matt checked out before the holidays.  That way we have all day tomorrow to call the dr. if we don't see any improvement.
