We had hoped that we would be taking Jack home tomorrow morning. However, today we were thrown yet another curveball. He had been battling cholestatic jaundice and some other issues for quite a while. Everything had gotten under control with the help of medication and things were looking up. They decided to do a TORCH study just to rule out some things as a cause of his jaundice. It came back positive for CMV (cytomegalovirus) which can be very serious.
During these last 16 weeks we have been 7 hours from home because I went into PTL while we were visiting my parents. The NICU that we are currently at is not equipped to deal with these problems, as Jack will need to be assessed by several specialists. Later this week he will be transported to a hospital only 45 minutes from our home that has more of the resources we will need. We have been hoping and praying for the day that Jack would get to come home to Wisconsin, we had just hoped that he would be coming home with us, not to another hospital.
If you have any thoughts or prayers to spare, we could certainly use them.
Re: Jack Update (long)
Oh, I'm so sorry to hear about Jack's setback. I know how hard it is when you think you are almost out the door. Andrew had a set back 2 days before he was first set to discharge (had a NEC scare) which bought him 3 more weeks. He just came home today at after 21 weeks (he's 44 weeks adj)
I hope the new hospital is able to help with his issue. I'm sure it will be nice to have him closer to home, but I know you really wish he could come home with you now. I hope this setback is short.
Thank you and congratulations on Andrew being home! That is so exciting. I hope you all have a smooth transition.
I'm sorry to hear this. Sending my thoughts and prayers to you guys. Please keep us posted on Jack.
ohhh I am so sorry to hear this but he is getting closer everyday and will be closer to home now.
You are tracking all of your mileage, right? for Tax purposes?
Stay strong!
I'm sorry about little man's set back. Hopefully the new hospital will be a great change for him and he'll rebound quickly. I'm also glad that you're going to be closer to home- sometimes it's just the small conveniences of being in your own space that make things a little easier to deal with.
T&Ps- keep us updated!
