Adrian has had 4 abscesses around his diaper area since he was 6 months old. The first one was treated with oral and topical antibiotics and it went away. Then he got 2 more this summer and finally, another big one last week. I took him to the pedi and she said since they are recurring, he might have acquired the Community-Acquired MRSA bacteria. It seems that only people in hospitals or with weak immune systems got it, but now it's out there in the community. Pedi says she saw 3 cases of it the day I took Adrian. The bad part of it is it's not your regular bug, it's a penicillin-resistant bacteria that's hard to get rid of. He's on non-penicillin oral antibiotics and ointment, but I'm so pissed.
I had a couple of them this summer too and I never had them my whole life! My guess is Adrian got it when he was going to my parents house. My loser brother (the one who's a bum, doesn't want to work and live off my parents) hangs out with the scum of the earth and he's had some weird skin infections... you can bet your arse Adrian probably got that bacteria from him. My brother has poor hygiene and touches everything in that house. I'm so pissed off right now. And the kicker is that we're going there again for Christmas and we have to stay in his old room! I'm going to go nuts disinfecting EVERYTHING, my parents are going to think I'm nuts.
For now I have to give Adrian and myself bleach baths to help erradicate the bug (1/3 Clorox diluted in a full bathtub of water).
My brother is disgusting and he probably gave this thing to my poor baby. I told my mother and of course, since she always defends and enables him, she doesn't think it's a big deal and is in denial. But get this... she called me today and says she has a red bump on her forehead!!! Poetic justice. Keep enabling that slob and that's what you get.
*Sigh* I'm not sure how I'm going to survive 12 days in that house. My parents I can deal with but if my brother is around I'm going to shoot myself ![]()
Re: CA-MRSA bug... WTF!!
WTH?? You do NOT have to stay in that sloth's room. There are always options. Get a cheap hotel. Stay at an old friend's house. Don't go!
MRSA has been around for quite sometime now. It is really prevalent in convalescent homes, preschools & elementary schools.
MRSA = methicillin resistance staphylococcus areus
My lil' sis who is a slob herself had it and had to have surgery to have the lesions removed. She can not transmit it to anyone unless she has broken skin and has not washed her hands.
Sorry your baby got it. Like the other posters I would not stay in there. That being said, anything he has touched, tables, counters, door knobs, sofas, remote controls, light switches. basically everything in the house could have the germs on it. Your best bet is to ask everyone who is going to hold Adrian to wash their hands in hot soapy water for 30 seconds, as well as their wrists and arms, prior to holding him.
Here is a link to the CDC info on MRSA, scroll down, it tells you what needs to be disinfected. https://www.cdc.gov/mrsa/environment/index.html
Hope this helps you!
I agree with this - it could have come from anyone and anywhere and I completely agree with getting a hotel room. 12 days is a looooong time to visit if things aren't physically or emotionally comfortable and esp. when it's neither!!! If I were going into a situation that I was that uncomfortable with I would be a nervous wreck and I know I would just make matters worse - staying on everyone to wash up and keeping an eagle eye on the baby and running clorox washcloths over everything. Somebody would be dumping a body somewhere, not sure who though, - just sayin'.
Oh, MAN!
Hotel room, this is a time to splurge, I think. Maybe you can give a choice... Maid service cleanup of the entire house, your choice of service and intensity, or hotel room and lots of activities outside the house.
I am sorry your mom got it on top of you guys, but it sounds like she needed to in order to get her to understand a little. BLEAH!
