Feeding Issues...HELP!

So the girls are not taking there bottles well at all. They started off great and in the last week its just been terrible.

I am convinced its something going on with their tummies. They fuss and scream and wiggle everytime they eat. Even when its a NG feed. Im considering taking them off breastmilk and putting them on a sensitive formula hoping that will help their tummies. The doctors are not being much help at all.

Other than bottle feeding we are ready to go home. Im so happy they are healthy and shouldent take that for granted  but I am so ready to go home. My apt lease is up next week and I dont know what I am going to do this far away from home. I refuse to leave them. Blah.

Re: Feeding Issues...HELP!

  • Sounds like what my DD did after we got home.  It was due to the formula we supplemented with to bring up the calorie count.  Plus she had reflux.  So it could be one or the other or both.  I'm sorry I can't give more insight.

And I can't believe you have to even deal with a lease issue.  I hope that works out and with very little stress.

  • It sounds like reflux. I think giving them formula will make it worse. I doubt that formula is more sensitive than breastmilk. You should talk to the neos about it. Sorry this hang up is keeping your girls from going home.
  • It sounds a lot like the acid reflux symptoms Amelia had.

BTW - I love your daughters' hats!  They are so adorable!

  • sounds like reflux.  i would talk to your doctors about getting an rx for prevacid.  also, hang in there with the breastfeeding.  think about cutting our dairy which is the most common allergy in babies.  my dd had an awful dairy allergy & when i cut dairy from my diet, it helped a ton.
  • Ditto cutting out dairy and maybe try keeping them as upright as possible , and maybe a reflux med. My other thought is that the NG can actually be irritating them. It acts like a wick and can make reflux worse. At least that's what I was told, and I believe it to be true from watching my son. It's a catch 22 though because they need the dumb thing.

I just wanted to send you some hugs too. If I could go back to myself at the time you're at, I'd have told myself to be more patient with the eating. It's so hard when they've been there so long and all you want to do is be home. Complicated by your apt lease too, but really you can't push eating. I learned this the hard way. Hope they're feeling better and home in your arms soon!

  • Sounds like reflux. Hugs!
  • I agree that it sounds like reflux.  Hate to say it, but Katie Beth is 13 weeks old, and the reflux only gets worse.  She didn't even start having problems until after we came home.  See if you can have the docs there get them started on something that will help before you leave.  HTH!
