Thermometers

I have a question.   Many things I've read say you must have a basal body thermometer to get an accurate reading on your BBT.  And the reason you need that specific thermometer is that it measures to the tenth of a degree.  Whereas, say the old glass thermometers, only measure to a whole degree.

I've been using a digital thermometer, which measures to the tenth (i.e. 96.6, was my temp this morning).  So what is the difference between the digitals that read to the tenth and a basal thermometer?

Re: Thermometers

  • BBTs read to the hundredth degree.  TCOYF says that a BBT is not necessary, and that a digital that reads to the tenth is sufficient.  HTH!

  • The BBT's go one decimal point out further.  Example:  96.69
  • sometimes it is easier to see the shift when you have more accurate temps.

Hmmm...the BD Basal Digital Thermometer that is sold on Amazon does NOT record to the 1/100th degree.   I just started charting this month and this is the one I bought.  It received good reviews and I've been happy with it so far.  I also know a number of other women on this board use this one too.  So, are you saying it's NOT a true BBT?
