Re: ~*~*~NICU check-in~*~*~

  • He had another blood transfusion while i was gone. They took him off cannula but that went sour quickly once the transfusion was absorbed.  He really struggled for a couple days even after they restarted the canula, but he's better now.  ROP exam was immature and we're just working on learning to eat right now.

    NoNo mastitis sucks!!

No watching him struggle and not being able to help him sucks!!

Yes we had a successful breastfeeding attempt with a shield for about 15 min.

Yes mom brought up my cradle (my grandfather built it for me to sleep in so long ago.  he is an amazing carpenter) so now we have a place for John to come home to when he's ready.

QOTW: Scrunchie.  (DS #1 is Squeaky)

  • Reid has had a good week.

Ups:  Off ventilator and on high flow oxygen.  He's also out of isolation.

Downs:  Not any real downs this week.  They were only able to wean him down to 3 Liters finally last night.  They first time he couldn't hang with it.

For some reason I started calling him big man after he was born and its stuck.  The good news is he acts like a big guy and is quite a fighter!

  • ups:
    1) she is now a full pound above birth weight
    2) she is getting almost a full ounce of milk every feeding

    downs:
    1) they had to turn her oxygen up because she de-sats after she eats
    2) im not sure i can keep up my milk supply

One day i started calling her little bit and it just stuck, so now that is her nickname.

  • No Emma has been having a lot of breathing issues this week and everything they tried wasn't working

Yes She was started on another course of steroids yesterday, and last night and this morning we are seeing the first signs of improvement!

Yes Her feeds were increased to 5 cc/hr and she has been gaining weight consistently - up to 1 lb, 12 oz!

No DH has had a cold and couldn't visit her for over a week Sad

I am hoping with the recent improvements they will try extubating her again this week!

We call her chipmunk a lot.  My husband and I call each other monkey, so chipmunk sounded good for a little monkey.. even though they are completely unrelated animals!  haha

Our little peanut was born at 23w4d Lilypie Premature Baby tickers
  • I used to call him "baby bird."  It was more real for him as a baby when he came home.  I was no longer just visiting him anymore.

He is now my "chunky monkey."

  • We are ***hopefully*** getting ready to go home soon. We had hoped to be discharged on Friday but Jack's liver enzymes were still elevated so we had to have some more testing done. Now we are shooting for Tuesday!

Yes Jack passed his car seat test!

Yes He did really well with his immunizations. No B's or A's!

No Not going home on Friday. I had a major meltdown. On Tuesday it will be exactly 4 months since I have been to my own house. I can't friggen wait!!

No We are waiting to get our home apnea monitor. There was some sort of mix up at the company and now it won't be here until tomorrow. Just frustrating. We probably could have been discharged Monday if we weren't waiting on that stupid machine!

    QOTW: He's my shuug!
