I'm a pediatric dermatology PA - We advise NOT to use any Johnson & Johnson's products...they all contain "fragrance mixture" as an ingredient which irritates the skin. Aveeno has "citric acid" which irritates the skin. We recommend Cetaphil or CeraVe creams and soaps. Creams are better than lotions because lotions have alcohols in them.

my pediatrician has already told me not to use any baby wash or lotion for the first few months, and if LO has chronically dry skin to just use Eucerin. but once he's old enough I plan on using Aveeno because it's one of the few brands that doesn't irritate my own sensitive skin.

The same cetaphil I use, or do they have a baby line?

Yup, the same Cetaphil (the liquid soap). They actually just came out with a new line called "Restoraderm" that has a ceramide (an added lipid type thing that helps retain water in the skin barrier) in it which is great for sensitive skin!

I think this is a great idea! I have seriously sensative skin myself and have been using cetaphil for years after being recommended by a Dermatologist and I love it! I just wish the liquid soap and lotion smelled better, but that's what you get for truly sensative based soaps and lotions.

THANK YOU! haha. I have super sensitive skin, I try to tell people about the alcohols/fragrances etc. You wouldn't believe the eye rolls I get.

You're welcome! I get it at all the time too! Especially from my patients. They think I'm nuts when I tell them to stop using J&J products on their kids...then they come back in 2-3 weeks later and their 100x better!

Only problem with Cetaphil and CeraVe is they contain parabans which have been looked at recently to be cancer causing. CereVe is claiming their parabans are the "safer" kind. I am allergic to parabans and break out in hives, so I can't use either. Just a heads up!

That Restoraderm lotion in the pump is the only thing that kept our baby's eczema at bay. The Cetaphil soap is the most gentle and we used California baby before. California Baby sensitive or tea tree soap and Calendula cream was all right but not as good as the Restoraderm. It's expensive but it works.
