When I start up again after not working out for sometime for whatever reason... i always gain a few before I lose... Your gaining muscle and muscle weighs more than fat... Just be sure you do enough cardio too... that will burn more calories and watch what you are eating... You could be consuming too many calories bc you are more hungry from working out... keep track for a couple days to see how much you are actually eating, this could be a wake up call for you...
You're not "gaining muscle" nearly fast enough to contribute any of it to a 6lb increase. With an aggressive weight-training program and consistently providing your body with a daily surplus of 250 calories, you can gain a half pound of muscle per week.
It's likely water weight. Keep working out though. The scale will reward you very soon.

I often weigh more for a day or so after lifting, especially when starting up after a break. Your muscles are retaining water in order to repair themselves, which is how you build muscle.
Re: I've gained 6 lbs since I've started working out
The 3 lbs could be water.
Are you tracking food, or watching your diet? If not, that could also be a contributing factor.
