Hey, can you tell me how the recovery from your gallbladder surgery went? I have an appt to see my doctor tomorrow...I've been having what could be gallbladder attacks for sometime now and they are getting worse, so I decided there was no time like the present to see someone.
Thanks!
Shannon
Re: ***Bea***
Shannon,
Definitely do see someone, I was misdiagnosed and it went on for a whole year before I had my last attack and it was THE worst, lasting 3 hours and eventually passing a stone through my pancreas. Does your pain seem like someone is stomping on your chest? like seriously really BAD indigestion? If you're having any of these, then yes, i'm sorry to say it could be related to your gallbladder.
The recovery wasn't THAT terrible, but for me personally, I felt it was bad enough and I have to associate that with just having had a c/s 2 months earlier and also never having had full anesthesia before. I had the laporascopic kind and although I have these 4 little "X" cuts on my belly the one that hurts the worst is my belly button. The doc admitted later he miscalculated the size of my gallbladder, which was rock solid full and twice the size, therefore, ripped my belly button more than he had cut....so it hurts and is a weird shape now.
Everyone heals differently and I definitely do not want to scare you, but as for my experience, it took a while to recuperate. While I feel 95% better 3 weeks after surgery, you'll mainly feel nauseous 2-4 post and your belly will ache. It will be distended for a few days from the air that was put in it to allow room for the docs to work. Your will loose some weight due to the limited foods you will be allowed and be able to eat after surgery. There are still some foods now that I will never touch again (fried mainly), just because they make me run to the restroom. But that's ok, because I have lost 35lbs so far and feel great! I was scared sh!tless, but in the end it had to be done for me. The stones were affecting my pancreas and liver and the whole thing could have been much worse.
I hope your visit goes well for you and whatever the outcome is, I hope it is a good one for you. GL! and i'll be thinking of you.
XOXO,
Bea

YES that is what it feels like. I also have terrible pains under my rib cage and those pains radiate to my shoulder & back. It also intensifies when I take a deep breath. It is happening everyday now, sometimes more than once.
IF this is what?s going on do you have any idea how long I would have to be out of work? Would it be a bad idea to have surgery before Christmas? I?m asking because since having Logan this year we have met out deductible?so there wouldn?t be any cost associated with the surgery.
Thanks for the info and I?ll let you know how it goes!
Every day? OMG Shannon please go now, do not walk, run! If they do the laporascopic kind it is usually done as an outpatient surgery, you may stay in the hospital 24hrs post. I would tend to believe that if they cut you open you would have to stay longer. The only "instruction" I had afterwards was to not lift Nicholas for about 3-4 wks, harder said than done, but the results may be a hernia.
Yep. Each. And. Every. Day.
The length of the attack varies, but painful no matter how long it goes on. I'm glad I'm going tomorrow now.
Girrrrrrl, get thee to the doctor!
I had to have mine out and it was actually the searing pain in my back (picture the feeling of being stabbed in the right shoulder blade and back with a red hot poker and then twisting it) that sent me to the ER.. You probably don't have to work to hard to picture that, huh?
When I went in, they did b/w and my bilirubin level was so high, they wouldn't even let me go home and come back the next day for the surgery.
If you have the lap, the surgery and recovery is a breeze. the doc said I would have to limit fats after the surgery - but by golly, I showed him - LOL! Seriously, too much fat did bother me at first, but now I don't notice any differnce. If I go too long on a completely empty stomach, I get a little nauseated. That's about it. I hope you feel better. No need to wait and suffer more than you have to.
