Talk to me about your morning routine

The last week I've been trying to wake before the kids, and that has helped things be less crazy when they do wake.  Today I was too tired so I slept until DD1 woke up, and as a result I feel like I've been catching up all morning.  So I guess I do need to respond to that alarm ...

Anyway, what does your morning look like?

Re: Talk to me about your morning routine

  • I wake when my LO wakes around 6:30am and then we hang out and play until around 9am.  I feed LO and then at 9:30am every morning he goes down for a nap until 11:30am.  During that time I take a shower, get the diaper bag packed and get ready for the day.  When my next one comes it might not work and I will have to come up with a new routine but this has worked great for the past 4 months.

  • I get up at 6:30 and am ready by 7:15. I peek in on each of the girls to see who is ready to wake up and start with that one - diaper change and get dressed. Then I get the other dressed and we go! Usually takes about 30 minutes for the girls. Sometimes the baby needs to eat before we leave, but that only takes about 5 minutes. I need to leave by 8, so that gives me some extra time for the unexpected.
  • I wake up up around 6-6:30am (when ds#2 wakes up). We come downstairs he gets a bottle, then we play together until about 7:50am. Then I feed him breakfast. This usually takes about 10 minutes. So, at 8:00am I go back upstairs and wake up ds#1. We come downstairs and ds#1 gets milk and some snuggle time (I put ds#2 in his booster seat, pull him in the family room with us, I give him some puffs and put on a cartoon). After about 15 minutes ds#1 is finished and I get ds#2 down and they play. I make ds#1 breakfast. While he eats and ds#2 plays, I empty the clean dishes from the dishwasher (I always load it and clean the kitchen before I go to bed). Luckily our kitchen, breakfast nook, and family room are all sorta one long room, so I can keep an eye on them. Around 9:00am we go to the basement, ds #2 goes in his jumperoo, and they watch Sesame Street (they love this show and ds #1 will actually stay in one place and watch it). While they watch the show I take my shower (we have a full bath in the basement, I just leave the bathroom door open). I take my 5 minute shower, change, etc. Then I take ds#2 out of the jumperoo, they play, get dressed and watch Sesame Street. Around 10:15am ds#2 is ready for another bottle and a nap. While he naps ds#1 and I play outside (if the weather is nice), do craft time, read books, do puzzles etc. DS #1 also gets a snack. Then ds#2 wakes up between 11:45 and 12:00. I feed both of them lunch.
  • I SAH with my kids. I usually plan out my week, meals, etc. on Sunday's.

In the morning, I get up, dressed, etc. and have at least a cup of coffee before the kids get up.

They are immediately dressed! I find it's easier to get the day going when we're all dressed.

My diaper bag is always packed and replenished before I go to bed.

  • It depends on if we have somewhere to go early.  Today we had Little Gym at 9:15am, so DD#2 started stirring at 6:30am, and I got up, changed, dressed and fed her.  Then I went to take my shower with her in the bouncy seat.  When I got out, I heard DS making noise in his room (7:15ish).  I went in there, got him changed and dressed, then brought him out to the kitchen for breakfast.  He ate his breakfast, then we had a little play time before we had to leave at 8:45am.  Little Gym lasted until 10am, when DD needed to eat again, so I brought them out to the car, strapped DS in and gave him a snack, and then fed DD in the car.  Then we went to the playground for a while before heading home for lunch (DD napped on the go in the car for the morning).

Other days, I get up with whomever wakes up first - usually around 7-7:30ish.  I get them both changed and dressed, give DS his breakfast and while he is eating I feed DD (or if she was up earlier than DS and has already eaten, she has some play time while he eats).  Around 8:30-9ish, DD is ready for a nap, so I put DS in the pack and play downstairs with some toys and Sesame Street on, and put DD down for her nap.  Then I head downstairs and take my shower in the bathroom off of the family room near DS.  Then DS and I play, or do some sort of activity until DD wakes up (usually only 45-60 min nap).  Then I feed DD again, and we head out of the house to do some sort of outside activity (music class, story time, playground, errands, etc).
