Homemade Laundry Detergent

Ok, so I am swamped this week and cannot get out to get some laundry detergent before my family comes in town for Thanksgiving and I'm running low, so here is my question...

Anyone know a good homemade laundry detergent recipe that does not require having bar soap?

Re: Homemade Laundry Detergent

  • You could sub Dr Bronners liquid soap for the bar soap.

  • Really? I've never done this before, so I wasn't sure I could do that. I thought maybe it was something about the consistency of the bar soap that I needed. Hmm... maybe I'll try that then. Thanks. :)
  • I sometimes use my cloth diaper detergent for clothes. I've always had good results. It's from the EFF Blog. It's two parts washing soda, two parts borax, and 1 part oxiclean. I actually prefer it for Dh's extremely soiled (think oil, dirt, sweat, and other nasties) work clothes.
  • We use:
    4 part borox
    2 part Dr Bronner's liquid
    1 part washing soda

I know someone who just uses the Dr Bronner's straight and says it works well, but it won't have the cleaning power as it will with borox and washing soda.

    GL!

  • Thanks everyone. I don't have washing soda and can't get out to the store. I did find a recipe that I could use Dr. Bronner's and then mix it with baking soda. It may not be the best, but it will get me through until after Thanksgiving!  I have had so much on my mind, I totally forgot I needed detergent.
  • Not EF, but time-saving - you could check out www.alice.com and order from them.  It usually comes next-day, I think, and coupons are automatically applied.

Also, check your FB inbox ;)

Thank you. I need it today though. :(  If the Bronner's trick doesn't work, I might just have to go next door and use MIL's washer and dryer and her detergent. She has HE washer, we don't... yet.
