One more question... About smoking...

If any of you are going to visit family who smokes, what are you planning on taking and not taking?

I know that smoke is super hard to get out of fabric, so it makes me nervous to permanently make her PnP, swing or bouncer smell of smoke. MIL has offered to buy Annabelle a few things, so that our things wouldnt have to come with us. But I dont want her to buy more than one thing, since baby things are so expensive. Annabelle LOVES her floor mat and bouncer, but I'm nervous to take them if they're just going to bring the smell home.

Does cig smoke come out of those things easy? Should I just take them, and wash them a bagillion times once we get home? TIA

My mom smokes, but doesn't smoke around the baby. When he's awake, she smokes outside. When he's upstairs asleep in his room with the door closed, she will smoke downstairs.

The smell doesn't get into any of his stuff when we're there.

Does she normally smoke in the house? DH's dad is a chronic smoker, but he will smoke outisde... with the door open. So it doesnt do much good for keeping the smell outside. Normally its not that strong inside, but it leaves a smell on your clothes. I just wasnt sure if it was going to be hard or not to get the smell out of something like Annabelle's play mat, you know? If it is, I will just leave it at home.

She does smoke in her house, but for some reason, the smell doesn't permeate in our stuff. When I get our stuff home, and it doesn't smell like smoke at all.

If something smells smoky, just wash it with Oxyclean. That should get the smell out.

My MIL smokes only in her living room and never inside when we are visiting. Every single time we go visit (which is usually for 4-10 days), everything we take, comes back reeking of smoke, even though she never smokes inside while we are there.

We just wash everything once, when we get back home and it takes care of it. Oh, and air out/fabreeze our luggage.

One time, REALLY!? That is SO awesome to hear.

When I was pregnant, I visited once (DH was deployed and they're so far away) and I had to wash my clothes like 5 times before I really couldnt smell anything. haha.

I guess I'll take the play mat and if it comes back stinky, then I'll just wash and wash and wash. But your one wash gives me hope!!
