carrying infant through airport security

I can't seem to find this online...thought one of you might have experienced it lately.

Am I going to basically be forced into a "pat-down" if we are flying with Cason next week?  Obviously he can't stand with his hands over his head in the body scanner and I'm assuming we can't hold him while we are in it.  I'm guessing we wont be able to pass him through to each other...

Is he going to get a "pat-down"?

I'm not really concerned, I just sort of want to know what to expect.

  • I don't have "facts", but my understanding is that you're correct - you'll basically have to do the pat-down b/c you can't send Cason through on his own, etc.

yes, but its out-dated since it only talks about the old metal detectors, which you could carry the baby through.

  • Please report back after your flight.  We are flying next month and I was wondering the same thing.  I personally don't mind the body scanners (and heck if someone really wants to look at a photo/scan of my fat @ss more power to them) but I am not thrilled with the idea of DD having a patdown.  She does not need to be "felt up".

  • we fly on tuesday so I can report back.  I am hoping that she will still be able to go through in the carrier. If I am not randomly selected for the scanner, I *should* be able to go through the metal detector with her, and if we don't beep we shouldn't get pat down. She can walk through, but it's so easier for her not to!

oh, so the metal detector may still be an option... i'll keep my fingers crossed for that.

  • I could be totally wrong, so let me (us) know how it goes!

But I think it's still going to be the same when it comes to metal detectors The body scanner and/or pat down only comes into play if 1) you're randomly selected on your boarding pass (i.e. I believe it has "sss" on it, FYI, you can ask for them to reissue you a new boarding pass) OR if 2) the metal detector beeps.

You will have to hold your baby, they won't let you have him in a carrier or stroller or anything to push him through the detector.

  • My in-laws flew last week and said that they only had one or two body scanners and it was random selection as to who went through it.  So, hopefully neither or only one of us gets randomly selected so the other one can carry him through the metal detector like always.

  • We've travelled to Portland, San Diego, and Fayeteville (AR) with DD in the last month and not a single time have we been selected for the full-body scanner or the pat down.

Hope you guys don't get selected either.
