North Dakota Babies

How would you handle this?

I have a girl that I was really close with in high school.  We are now friends on FB.  We met up for lunch once when I was pregnant. We really have NOTHING in common anymore.  Our lives are very, very different.  She recently emailed & asked if I would be interested in working out together.  I politely explained that I have been working out at home independently since things are kinda crazy with a baby now.  She emailed back & said that when she asked if I wanted to work out together, she really was just looking for a way to ask me to hang out.  She asked if DH & I would like to come over for dinner one night (with Reese).  Her husband is a total jack a$$, & I really can't stand him.  I really don't want to continue getting together with her either, just because I don't feel we have anything in common.  How do I diplomatically decline?

  • This sounds like a really tough situation since she is being pretty forward about things.  I don't think you really have an out.  I personally would probably commit to one dinner & hope it goes wrong & they'll get the hint.  Then again, I'm a huge coward & I'm really bad with conflict.  Embarrassed

  • Can you generally reply- sure, maybe after the holidays.  It's hectic for us in the first place, and now with Reese & all...Then add something like, I'll get ahold of you after the holiday craziness is over.

Hopefully by January she will have forgotten about it or get the hint.

    Yikes!  GL!

That's kind of what I was thinking.  There is no way Matt will ever forgive me if I drag him into this mess (ok, maybe that's a little dramatic).  Seriously though, I wouldn't put him through it.  These people are polar opposites of us, & the husband is borderline intolerable.

I was thinking the same thing.  I had to dodge a girl I knew who was constantly inviting herself over to my house (she even bought Mari a gift) and I had never even met her before (a childhood friend of Peter's) and that's how I did it.

Just keep making excuses and leave your responses as short and sweet as possible - she'll get the hint eventually.

  • Good Lord.  I hope this girl takes the hint though.  Something tells me, she might not "get it" for a while.  Good luck!!
