Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Baby hungry all the time!

My baby is almost two weeks and she wont stop feeding!! I feel like I feed her and less than hour later she wants to eat again. I'm breastfeeding and I feel like I cant get anything done around the house. I let her eat until she's finished and then I'll burp her and she"ll eat from the other side. Is this happening to anyone else or know whats going on.

  • That's very normal for that age.

  • I'm glad you wrote this because I am in the same boat - DD is 1 week and 2 days old and today she's been eating every hour/1.5 hours.  I'm breastfeeding also and so I feel your frustration (plus it makes me pretty sore!)  I've heard this is normal though, so I just let her eat when she wants to.  How is yours eating at night?
  • Babies have their first growth spurt usually between 10-14 days where they do this. It's exhausting but her appetite will curb in a few days. Hang in there!
  • I went through the same thing. Its the baby going through a growth spurt, and usually lasts a week or two.

  • Very normal unfortunatly! All that nursing will help to build your supply for when your babe is bigger. C is 7wks now & just starting to go longer between feeds (2-3hrs usually but sometimes 4). It'll slow down eventually!
  • This is totally normal, it's the two week growth spurt. When my son had his I was nursing him around the clock for a few days. You really shouldn't have to worry about getting housework done at this point; you have a newborn.

  • I pretty much posted this same thing last weeek. My baby is five and a half weeks old and BF and he eats all the time!!! I feel your frustration. I am a pumper so I pump, feed him, burp him, wash his bottles and pump and stuff and the next thing you know he is eating again!!! I asked to supplement with formula but they say if he is gaining weight then dont worry about but it is still very stressful!

  • normal.

Feed your baby. Relax. Stop trying to do other things. The only thing that's important right now is your baby.

"Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies. God damn it, you've got to be kind." - Kurt Vonnegut
  • It might be that he/she is not getting enough milk while you are breast-feeding him because i  breast feed my lil boy for about 30-45 min and he was still hungry also. Try giving him formula after breast feeding him and he will gall right to sleep. Mine does for about 4 hrs all the time.
  • very normal. your job right now is to feed the baby, all non urgent house duties can wait or your husband can do it. don't worry, it gets better as they get older.
