total fail :/

The last 6 weeks have been a mess.

6 weeks ago Andrew got a cold and the same day, was seen and diagnosed with a double ear infection.

After 3 weeks of Omnnicef and 10 days of Augmentin, his ears were clear.

But he was still fussy.  We thougth teething, we thougth his ears were bad again, got them checked several times, fine, to finally realize he had a lingering sinus infection.

So we start Augmentin again...he is fine 2 days later but still clingy (but not crying)....but then 5 days later he's a mess again.

Today he finished the last dose of Augmentin and he's a mess so we got his ears checked (even though they were clear 10 days ago) and now he has a double ear infection.

He won't eat. won't sleep. won't drink. He's an absolute mess.

We have an ENT appt the 29th but god help us if we have to wait that long. We're calling every day to get him in somehow.

Today we starting doubling antibiotics - Cleftin and Clindomycin.

Please pray that we can see a doctor soon and that my little guy can get some relief for the first time in so long.

He's been on anitbiotics (omnicef and augmentin) almost constantly since April 1st when we took him of fof lockdown.  He gets a cold and can't get rid of the infection for months.

I'm almost sure they will want to do some kind of surgery and pray it happens FAST.

  • My sister's adopted/stepson was going through this same situation about 3 months ago. This probably won't help you much since I only know bits and pieces of the entire story. Anyway, Hayden had tubes put into his ears and then all of his issues stopped. We're praying for you tonight, and tomorrow at church. Can't stand to see children suffering. Good luck!

  • That poor kiddo...sound like tubes might not be a bad idea, anything to help him avoid those ear infections, at least. *hugs*

  • I'm so sorry.  poor guy.

My son (who is 12) ....seemed like he had ear infections all the time.  I felt like I was at the pediatrician every week when he was a toddler.  Years later a new doctor was looking in his ears.  They said they were so scarred, they couldn't believe he didn't have tubes put in.

Sending you lots of ((hugs)).  It's so hard to have your little one so uncomfortable.  I hope you get into the doc very soon.

  • I'm anticipating at least tubes, maybe adenoid removal although I really know nothing about it.  While he's out, I also want them to run a blood test - check maybe allergies and immune system function.  I know that he has chronic sinus and ear infections and it sucks.
  • We went through the same thing with Brandon from last October-March. He finally got tubes put in last March and has been fine since. He has been sick twice but it never went to his ears. Usually they only want to remove adnoids if the child snores.

  • How do they help sinus infections? Those have been a bigger issue than ear infections?  Do tubes help sinus infections? Dumb question probably.
  • He can't keep his bx down, taste too bad, too thick, he keeps gagging and puking them all up so we had to stop them. Have to wait unitl tomorrow and getting Rocephin shots.

I feel bad for him. I'm buying him the Melissa & doug car carrier today :) lmao

  • Aw, im so sorry hes feeling so bad! & im sorry your having such a hard time! I really hope he gets better and doesnt even have to wait for the doctor to get better. Ill be praying for him.

  • Oh man, poor little guy, I really hope that you get into the ENT sooner rather than later and that he feels better soon.  I had recurring ear infections (like once a month) as a toddler and finally got tubes when I was 5.  Fixed me right up!

  • So sorry to hear about your struggles. We're sending lots of thoughts and prayers your way.  And thank you for your post as it has renewed my confidence in our winter isolation plan for our LO as he's not even a year old yet. Hang in there.

  • in our experience, every time Rowen gets antibiotics he gets another infection almost immediately after that. antibiotics are good for some things and god knows im not a doctor but most colds and ear infections are caused by viruses. so antibiotic don't help anyway. antibiotics kill all the good bacteria too so they have a more difficult time fighting off the next infection. have you tried a more holistic approach? is he on probiotics?

im sorry you are having such a tough time. it's so frustrating when our kids are sick and we can't make it better.

  • I do not have any experience with this but you may want to talk to ijack on here, she is IVS on TPP. She just went through this with her daughter, i believe she had tubes and adnoutes(sp) taken out due to snus issues and ear infections.

I was just going to ask if you had considered the rocephin. Reese had 2 injections and it cleared up a chronic infection. Reese had her first set of tubes put in at 9 months and we just had them replaced and her adnoids out. Our ent always removes the adnoids on their second round of tubes (a study showed that there were less infections if adnoids were removed, in conjunction with tubes being put in) He said that in littles, the adnoids act like a sponge for infection. When he went in, Reese's were awful! It took about 3 days for her to be back to normal, but she's like a completely new toddler now. She's happy, sleeping and eating. And I'm glad that she's off of the constant antibiotics. (sorry for the lack of paragraphs-I'm on my phone!)
