Period-like cramps- when to get concerned?

I've been having these a lot within the last week.  Period-like cramps way down low in my pelvic area.  They're not horribly painful or anything, but every once in awhile they get super uncomfortable and I'll also have some back pain with them.  I've read some of this is normal, but is there a point where you should be concerned or it could mean something is going on?  I don't remember these at all with DD.

  • My period like cramps turned out to be contractions with my last pregnancy.  I'm already experiencing them now too.  My doctor said to just time them if they seemed timable.  I'd mention them at your next appt or call tomorrow if you are worried.
  • I get this a lot and I told my OB at my last appointment. He said unless it was timeable or I was getting them on and off multiple times over the course of a few hours that it was nothing to be concerned with.

  • looks like we are in the same boat and close due dates too...

my dr. gave me a handout to put on my fridge that tells me when i need to call or go directly to L&D...

period like cramps is one of them!

i finally straightened it out with my doctor! she's calling them "practice contractions" and if you lay down and drink water and they go away, then you don't need to call or go in.

it means we're gettin close! :)

  • I had some cramping earlier on, but it never meant anything until they were coming and going like contractions.

  • I get these too along with the back pain. I'm assuming they are ctx, but they're not timeable or happening super often for me!

  • For me, period-like cramping was the start of labor.  I didn't have any cramping throughout my pregnancy, so I definitely noticed these.  They started shortly after I hit 40 weeks and progressed into regular contractions.  I ended up being induced at 40w6d, but I was having regular contractions and a little dilated when that happened.
  • Thanks ladies, that's pretty much what I was thinking.  I haven't been too concerned about them, but DH freaks out every time thinking the baby is coming early, lol.  They're definitely uncomfortable, but not what I would call painful and they're not regular or timeable by any means.  I go to the dr. tomorrow so I'll mention it to her then.
