Face Wash?

I read somewhere that any face wash that contains saclyic acid (sp?) or benzoyal peroxide is not safe to use during pregnancy.  I usually use Neutrogena acne wash, but stopped because it contains both.  Does anyone have any recommendations?  I bought Noxema yesterday, but wasn't sure.  TIA!

Re: Face Wash?

  • Haha, I'm doing research on this stuff right now.  No tetracycline, either.  I'm going to Target later tonight to see what they have that I can use--I quit using my Noxema toner pads and the Neutrogena facewash (look at the active ingredients, which is separate from the inactive ones...I looked yesterday and thought it was okay, double checked today and had overlooked the active ingredients part, and salicylic acid was there) I was using in the shower.  I e-mailed my Mary Kay lady to see if there are any of these ingredients in their facewash, which I have out by the sink for night time.

  • I thought benzoyl peroxide is okay, but salicylic acid is not.

I use purity made simple cleanser (has no meds in it) and neutrogena on the spot treatment on zits.  I had to give up my beloved salicylic acid treatment.  I miss it.  My skin isn't as pretty as it was before.

  • my doc says face wash is okay, even if it contains those products, it is just topical you aren't eating it so it is safe.

  • I use Cetaphil and have always been happy with it.

  • I was just at the Derm. on 11/10 and she gave me samples and rx for Atralin and Benzoyl Peroxide. She said the benzo peroxide was ok to use while pregnant but DO NOT use the atralin which I think is generic for trentinoin.  The pharmacist also confirmed the Benzo was ok to use while pregnant

  • Burt's Bees has a creamy face wash that doesn't have any of that stuff in it.  I love it.

  • My Dr. told me any facewash with 2% or less SA or BP was entirely fine, which is anything at hte drugstore.

He said with  the issue comes with oral meds for acne or with RX meds that are meant to sit on your skin for long periods of time.

When I asked about this he said, "Do you have plans to use it or eat it?" ;)

I rotate between Burt's Bees Daily Radiance and Soap Bark and Chammomile...just because it's what I've always used.

  • I use Belli - it's the best and smells good, too (especially for those of you with m/s!)... I highly recommend it:)
