Ugh... it's getting really cold... and I can borrow one of DH's but it isn't really the best. I am debating if I should spring for one. What are you ladies in cooler climates doing? Thanks!

I think I'll buy a Snuggie and just wear that. You know, like they do in the commercials. Aparently it's good for everything.
All kidding aside, I'm in San Diego and I'd like to get one. It's pretty chilly out, and after I deliver I won't be small enough for a regular jacket anyway. I can always Ebay it next winter.
If you have a Kid to Kid where you live they sell gently used kids clothes and maternity clothes. I found a $98.00 GAP down filled puffer coat for $20 there!
I was about to go spring for one, but it turned out that one of my mom's coworkers had two extra big jackets that were no longer needed, including a really nice black peacoat. So I definitely got lucky! I had been wearing my regular winter jacket with the top buttons fastened but leaving the bottom four open...it was pretty obvious it didn't fit me anymore, lol.
I live in Vermont and already I have all the winter coats out...
I dont plan on buying a coat so I wear my boarding jacket for now, and my Carhartt is still really baggy too...
Worst comes to worst Ill wear my DHs coat hes a XL so it should fit lol. If I were going to get one I would go to a discount or second hand because if you only need it for a month or two its hard to justify buying a $100 coat I think.
I bought one at Old Navy for $30.00. It is worth not freezing. I am in Michigan and it gets too cold to not have a coat. The coat fits great and I have two months left. I figure that I will get my money's worth.
Living in Alaska you'd think I'd be the first to want a winter coat, but I have a wrap sweater that I wear. Anything more than that and I'm sweating and convinced my skin is going to melt off at any moment.
I refused to buy one for DS2(winter baby) and managed to make my peacoat work but my belly was very cold when I had to shovel snow. The peacoat was already fitting me like I was 8 months at 6 months so this pg I broke down and bought one (fleece lined, down filled I think) through ON Maternity since they were $30. Only problem is that I am carrying straight across the middle which is making the coat tight already eventhough I bought a size bigger than I normally would. I hope LO drops soon so I can wear the jacket through the whole pregnancy. Plus I figure I can wear it after baby through the rest of the winter time when I will still be losing weight.
One night of waiting 15+ minutes in windy 40 degree weather for the bus to come and I realized that I'd be screwed when it gets colder. It's either wait for a bus or a 15-20 walk from the subway. And I'm not feeling that walk much lately.
I work in midtown in a pretty nice office, I have to look decent for work most days. Also get invited to some nice events due to my SO's job...wearing his giant puffer coat wasn't gonna cut it.
I can't even button my regular coats over my boobs now :-(
I figure I'll put it on ebay or craigslist next year
It's going to be 25 degrees here and snowing on Thanksgiving Day. No way could I go with out a coat until February! Fortunately, I lost about 40 pounds about a year before I got pregnant, and so far my "fat" coat from back then still fits. It's super baggy in the arms, but it's warm, and I can button it. If I didn't have that, I would be borrowing one from a friend. The old navy coats are cute, but IMO they're just not warm enough for a Nebraska blizzard.
Considering it will be in the 20s next week and more snow is coming I think I need to find a coat . Everyone is getting on my butt about it too because I refuse to buy one so far.
no way! i'm just wearing mine unzipped. we have a place called good will, idk if you have them where you live, but their coats are like under $5. thats the only way i'd buy one.
I live in Fairbanks, Alaska and I was pretty good without a winter coat until recently. I kind of HAVE to get a winter coat here, pretty soon it will be no warmer than -15. I guess I didn't get the always hot symptom, though living here I wish I would. By the time I went on oldnavy.com there wasn't much of a selection left so I found a decent one on ebay.
I live in san diego but it gets pretty chilly here, especially at night dec-feb so I bought a fleecy/hoodie coat at old navy for like $30 and then also a peacoat style jacket that is not maternity but I bought a large and it still has room in the belly area. I dont understand why you would want to freeze for like 3 months just to save $50! If your that tight on money, you can buy a used one on ebay or consignment store....You can easily find a warm maternity coat for under $50 even at target. But I also have no problem purchasing a lot of maternity clothing because I have a clothes problem, plus I work in retail.
I've been doing the same- either buttoning the top button or just leaving them all unbuttoned. I'm thinking of looking for a coat that is belted, but that may not last too long!
I've been making do so far with a heavy cardigan and my leather jacket but it's not all that cold in NYC just yet. And I just checked - I can still zip up my winter coat but it's snug so that might not be the case in a few more weeks. I was thinking of just wearing it open for as long as possible, but I might cave and buy something eventually...
You're in MO? I'm in KS. Heck yes, get a coat! I have two; the puffer one from Old Navy that was on sale a couple weeks ago, but doesn't appear on their site right now, and a lined jersey-type jacket from Target that was $40. So worth it. Especially since I work in an office with air conditioning, so just wearing heavy sweaters isn't always the best winter clothing solution.
Also, consider the fact that if you do get one, you can sell it on Ebay after the pregnancy, make some money back, and make some other mom happy.
I'm in CO and yes -bought the fleece lined ON one for $30, but they don't have it anymore. I'm a big baby and cannot stand to be cold so going with the unzipped thing wouldn't work for me. I don't run hot when I'm PG so maternity coat it is. I plan to resale it when I'm done.

I got two coats for about $100 from Old Navy (one of them when they were doing the 50% off sale)... one is a dressier coat that looks good over professional clothes and the other is a puffer for casual/outdoorsy wear. I've already been wearing them for about a month and am very glad I have them! February is still three whole months from now, and it's only going to get colder.

My mom has an XL coat that she no longer wears. I am using that for now. I don't think I will buy a coat since it seems to be working just fine.
Maternity clothes always cost more than just buying regular clothers in a larger size. Maybe you could find some good Black friday sales though.
I confess to buying this:
