Cloth Diapering

Wool Longies?

Okay - educate me on these......    Are they like diaper covers for fitteds?   Do you put clothes over top of them?    Can the baby wear them to bed and would they be any good for overnight?     Does the whole thing get wet?

Sorry for all the wool posts I'm making, but I'm really wanting to try some wool stuff  and fitteds out with Dominic (he's a heavy wetter).  Also, would you buy these things use or is new the way to go?

Okay - educate me on these......    Are they like diaper covers for fitteds?  Yes, they are covers.  Properly lanolized wool is water-proof, yet absorbs wetness.  Wool is pretty much a miracle from nature.  LOL

Do you put clothes over top of them?  My baby wears clothes over her wool soakers sometimes, but you don't have to wear clothes over them if you don't want to.

Can the baby wear them to bed and would they be any good for overnight?  Aristocrats are great for overnight.  I have a heavy wetter, too.  Just make sure the diaper underneath is absorbent enough.  My baby wears GMs and B4s with AFFF or extra hemp doublers (we have Hemp Babies).

Does the whole thing get wet?  The wool should not get soaked -- you need an extra absorbent diaper underneath.  The wool can absorb only so much, so the bulk of the moisture needs to be absorbed by the diaper.

Sorry for all the wool posts I'm making, but I'm really wanting to try some wool stuff  and fitteds out with Dominic (he's a heavy wetter).  Also, would you buy these things use or is new the way to go?  I have a couple of wool I bought new, but I like buying used wool, too, b/c you get some nicer wools, more expensive wool, e.g. Aristocrats, for less.

  • Oh, and here are lanolizing instructions:

    https://www.diaperpin.com/clothdiapers/article_howtolanolizewool.asp

Wool needs to be washed only when pooped on.  Otherwise, you can wash them every once in a while.  Really.  I wash mine maybe every few weeks, if that.  Since wool is naturally anti-bacterial, it will NOT smell like urine once it's dry.  Really.  I don't know why some ppl think wool is high maintenance b/c it the lowest maintenance baby item I own!

  • Thank you so much for the info.!   I found some wool longies on kijiji - maybe I'll give those a try as well as the covers.
