DS is just one now but has been bottle fed from the start (I first EP'ed and then FF'ed from 6 months on). I am having a VERY difficult time switching from bottles to cups. My LO is still on formula because he has kind of been a late eater and he has some kidney issues so the doctors want to make sure we keep giving him lots of nutrition. But everyone wants me to get over to the cup. He will drink water from a straw cup but when I give him formula in one he throws it down and then cries until he gets a bottle. I'm sure I am not the first person to have a hard time with this, so any tips from you ladies who are beyond this lovely issue?
Much appreciated...thanks!
Re: Tips from Moms who had a hard time going bottle to cup?
We switched both boys at 12-13mo and both had a really hard time. It took about a week of tantrums before they finally caved. The key is to NOT give in. They learn quick that if they throw a tantrum, they'll get their bottle. Your LO is not going to starve himself. Eventually he will realize that if he wants to eat, he's going to have to accept your sippy.
It's not fun, I KNOW. But in the long run, it really is just a few days... a week or so maybe.
We use a different sippy for milk than we do for water. They get water in straw sippies but for milk we use the soft spout Sip n Smile cups by Gerber. With DS2, I learned he does not like having a stopper in his. So one boy has a stopper, one does not.
Good luck... be persistent and know that the tantrums do end if you don't cave.

My DS will not drink milk out of a sippy. Drives me and DH bonkers. My pedi said off the bottle by 2 so we aren't pushing. He only gets milk in the bottle. Any juice or water is strictly in the sippy, so we are getting there. We'll try to go hardcore on it after the new year, because he turns 2 in the will be off them before then.
We have about 5 different types of cups and all were a big fat FAIL with the milk. Hard spouts, soft spouts, somewhere in between spouts, handles, no handles. Nothing worked.
