XP: crib bedding dilemma

I am having a hard time convincing myself that I NEED a crib bedding set when all the ones I have seen some with a bumper that you arent supposed to use for safety reasons and they come with quilts, which more people dont use. Is anyone not picking out a bedding set? What are you doing instead? HELP! I needs some ideas!! Thanks!

ETA: It seems had to decorate the baby's room without one, so I need some advise!

Just buy a crib skirt and nice sheets - a lot of places PBK and RH Kids sell them individually.

We did a set with DS. The comforter is hanging on his wall and we only used the bumper for a short period when he was about 1. This time we are investing in a cool rug and buying basic bedding to match.

I never had one when DS was an infant. I was too worried about the sids risk with the bumper. When he started sleeping in his crib I bought a breathable bumper. So ,no, you do not need it.

The nursery does look super cute with a bedding set but you can find sheets and a breathable bumper that will be safer if your LO will sleep in his crib as an infant. Sorry I dont have any examples to show you!

I got both my other daughter's set and this daughter's set at pottery barn kids. I just bought the stuff individually. Why is it hard to decorate without one? A bedding skirt and a sheet with all the other stuff is so nice you don't need a bumper. I would be more worried about my child's safety than worrying about what the room looked like

It comes out just as nice I promise !

we did a set with DS and are not doing a set this time around. having the set did help to set the theme of the room for DS. this time, i had a painting i wanted to hang in the room so that will set the theme and we are doing everything around that. maybe start narrowing down choices in that way? or just pick a theme and start going with it?

we plan to only buy a crib skirt and sheets + the wall accents. i will say that i'm doing the room piece by piece this time so i can see it all together before i decide what i do next so i can be sure it looks good. with DS, doing the set allowed me to just buy it all and assemble it all and imo, it looks adorable!

I just bought separate pieces from PBK.

We did use a bumper with DS and still do. We did take it out for a while after he started rolling back to belly (around 4 months) but put it back in after he got his legs stuck in the slats around 10m.

You can always buy the accessories that go with a bedding set you like. Just buy the sheets, artwork, curtains, etc. You don't need the actual set that comes with the quilt, bumper, sheets, etc. Check out this website for lots of ideas for nurseries that don't have bedding sets.

I just posted pictures of my DS's nursery over on the Nurseries and Baby Gear board. We didn't use a bedding set but still had a theme and I did the whole room for about what I paid for my DD's bedding set. Much more affordable and way cuter IMO.

I'm not going to say you don't need one, but I didn't. I didn't use the bumper or the comforter. We bought breathable bumpers.

We did buy some sheets and a bedskirt off babysupermall.com. The main reason I don't care about the set is because I put the Ultimate Crib Sheet over the regular sheet anyway. https://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3763008

i dont even need a crib skirt with the crib we are getting.

im buying sheets of etsy i think. and i will get a breathable bumper. i may also look at getting a valance for the window in a coordinating material, along with a blanket that the nugget can use when s/he is a bit older or for floor time

I'm probably the only person that actually used all of the pieces in the set (bumper, skirt, sheet & quilt). K was the type of sleeper to get tangled up in the bars, so I did use the bumper (flame away). We draped her quilt over the top of the glider when she was little and just started putting it in her bed, now that we converted the crib to the toddler bed. The one piece that's least used is actually the sheet, because it was scratchier than others I found that still coordinated with the set. I can safely say we got our money's worth out of the whole thing though.

Just get sheets! You can still do a theme - we did happen to buy the whole set for DS #1, and we hung the quilt on the wall. But for DS #2, we're still doing sports stuff all over the wall, but probably won't hang the quilt up. Oh, and it you really want a quilt to display, babysupermall.com had some sets where you could buy all the pieces separately, so you could get everything you want except the bumper, for a whole lot less!

I just registered for one. Heck, if someone wants to pay 200+ for a frivolous bedding set for me and baby more power to them! But yeah...if no one buys it for me I probably won't go out and drop the cash for it myself.

It just seemed like one of those things my grandparents would like to buy. Practical, but frivolous all at the same time.

My mom and I are making a quilt/blanket of some sort. It'll be cheaper and she's pretty great at making blankets! Plus, I'll have exactly what I want and it will have some good memories too.

I was planning on buying only the accessories but the set that I like doesn't have much and doesn't sell seperates. The only way to get the adorable sheet even is to buy the whole thing. So my solution is to buy the set and hang the quilt on the wall since it doesn't come with pictures and turn the bumber in valences since the curtains are out of stock.
