I am just trying to figure all of this out. We are planning on having LO sleep in our room for a while before we move him to his crib in his room.
I was originally thinking of just getting a pack n play for the bedroom and having him sleep there. The problem is that our bedrooms are on the second floor and I feel like we need something for downstairs for him to nap in. We also have a dog so I feel like he will need to be in something the dog can't get to. My dog is sweet as can be but I still feel like we'll need that security, especially in the beginning.
So my new plan is to use the pack n play in the living room downstairs and maybe get a bassinet for our bedroom? How does this sound? Any other ideas? Any other dog owners with this situation, too?

We have three small dogs and are going with the pack and play at first. Our house is one story so it should not be too hard to move around for awhile.
Sounds like you have a good plan to me.

We were in the same situation when DD was born. Two huge nose-butting dogs. We had a P-N-P with bassinet for sleeping, but also a Bright Starts By Your Side chair for napping and sitting, It reclined and was high off the ground. The dogs would get close enough to sniff, but that's it. It worked great and DD still wants to sit in it when she's sick, but I don't think they make it anymore. I just bought the Fisher Price Rock-n-Play Sleeper. It's also set pretty high off the ground, but I like that it is easier to move around.
