I'm set to be induced on Monday. I just posted something like this on 3rd tri, but the bottom line is I feel like I'm suddenly hearing all of these stories about ppl who had trouble with pitocin and having to go for multiple rounds etc.

If you were induced, would you mind sharing with me what I *might* expect? I feel like the unknown is killing me. Unfortunately I got word on Friday afternoon so I didn't really have an opportunity to ask too many questions of my Dr. I'm worried about my body failing me.... Obviously I'll do whatever is necessary to get LO here safely, but at the same time that doesn't mean I'm not still nervous.

I was induced with pitocin. I had a six hr labor. I was already having contractions on my own so it just got them really going. I think I may have had it for about 2-3 hrs. I think you'll be fine. GL

i was induced with pitocin, i had a 22 hour labor but only needed one round.

my only trouble with the pre-e meds made me too weak to push and the GD made her bigger, so she was stuck.

I was 3 cm when I was induced. Pitocin was started at 8AM and she was born @ 5:28PM.

I had an immediate induction as I was at the hospital being monitored because I was overdue. Low fluid and unresponsive baby=induction. Pitocin started at 11:15 on a very low dose, broke water at 2:00. Heavy contrax started after that, unbearable pain at 2:45 or so. Abigail was born at 3:13. They never had to raise the pitocin and everything was perfect. I didn't even have the epidural (which could've been why we never had to up the pit...)

I was induced on my due date and ended up not even "needing" the pitocin. I was dilated 1cm when I went into the hospital at 8:30pm and they inserted cytotec at 9:15ish. (I think most people get cervadil instead) By 11pm I was at a 4 and got the epidural. I was fully dilated by 6am and I had to wait for the doctor to get there. At around 7, the doc got there and accidentally broke my water when she checked me. I tried pushing at 7:30, but couldn't feel enough, so they shut off my epidural and started pitocin just to make the contractions stronger. (The monitors wouldn't pick up my contractions, either. If they did, the nurse would have just told me when to push.) I started pushing again at 9, and she was born at 9:30.

If you're going in the night before, they'll probably give you an Ambien to help you sleep. I was really worried about not getting to eat before hand (the shut off was 2pm), but I didn't get hungry until the night after she was born. I can't really think of anything else you really need to know.

I think that you're far enough along that it will go fine. Don't worry about it!

Are you already having contractions or made any progress?

I wasn't having contractions, but lots of back labor. I was 2cm, 90% effaced, 0 station when they started pitocin at 7:15 am. Broke my water at 8am. epidural at 11am. I had DD at 3:03pm, less than 8hrs total.

It was on my due date due to pregnancy induced hypertension.

I was induced with both children and both times I was fine and only needed one round. I was a little nausea the first time, but I think you'll be fine, GL!!

I was induced at 12:00am at 2 cm. She was born at 11:26am via c-section due to her unstable HR.

I had Cervadil the day prior to Pitocin because my cervix was unfavourable. It was still long, thick and not dilated. The twins weren't going to budge! The Cervadil did almost nothing. When I went in the following day for the rest of my induction, I was only 1cm dilated and 50% effaced. My OB broke my water and started the Pitocin. I got my epidural at 5 cm (3 hours later) and felt zero pain, only a little bit of pressure. My labour lasted 10 hours and I pushed for 1.5 hours. I had quite a positive induction and epidural. My boys are both big, healthy, strong and have been since they were born. Good luck with your induction! Not every induction is a horror story or ends up in csection!

I was induced due to pre-e at 38 weeks. I was at 1 cm, 50% when I was first admitted around 2 pm so they inserted cytotec. By 7 pm I was 2-3 cm, 75%, so pitocin was started. By 11 pm I was on max dose of pitocin and my water broke on its own. About an hour later, contractions were excruciating but I was still only 2-3, so I requested an epi. Epi didn't start working until around 3 am, by which point I was 4-5 cm. Around 4 am, I was fully dilated and her head was at +2 so the nurse and doc had me start pushing, I pushed for 10 min and she was born at 4:14 am.

I was induced with Pitocin. I started 2-3cm dilated, and 50% effaced. I got an epidural as well. Labor was great...very easy!! Eleven hours total. The whole experience was great, I was very lucky! I did have a horrible pregnancy though! Good luck

My water broke on its own, but I still needed cytotec followed by pitocin. After 30 hours, multiple rounds of pitocin, and a fever, I was only 4 centimeters dilated. C-section it was. My advice: be prepared for anything.

i was induced at 3 cm 80% bc baby had decreased heartrate during nonstress test. started pitocin at 6:00 pm deliveried at 6:58 am. didn't have any issues with pitocin worked just as it was supposed to. but remember you can't eat once you are induced so make sure to eat before you go in just incase its a long labor

I was induced at 39 wks due to the start of pre-e. Pitocin was started at like 10am on Thursday and I had my LO at 2am Saturday morning. I was having some contractions on my own. Nurse that was on when I first got there didn't up the Pit like my midwife instructed. Instead of upping it every 30 minutes she was doing it every 60 minutes or sometimes even a little bit longer. My midwife was none too pleased when she came back in and said "Why are you smiling? Can't you feel anything?" A new nurse was already on at that point and had tried to reach my midwife to see what was up. That said I probably would have had LO sooner. I pushed for 2.5hrs but LO's head was turned just a bit so I ended up having a c-section.

Good luck and try not to worry. Go with the flow and don't be afraid to ask questions when you get there.

Mine was a horror story as well. Water broke 12am and by 7am I had not started labor on my own. (Only mild contractions) Was given pitocin at 10am or so and was only dilated to 1cm. By 5pm the pin was pretty bad but I was only dilated to 3cm. Asked for epi and by the time it arrived an hour later I was 8.5cm so I couldn't get it. The pain was absolutely awful- but the best motivator ever to push. He was born at 9pm. Horrible labor but he never responded badly to all the pitocin. I will say being hooked up to monitors constantly and unable to get up SUCKS. Hope yours goes much better!

I was induced 2 weeks ago. They tried a form of cervical softner before I got started on Pitocin literally 20 min after the IV was started my contractions were back to back. Word of Warning though Pitocin does make the contractions stronger I am speaking as a person who had a great drug free unindued labor in the past. It all depends on if they speed up your pitocin or increase the dose, but the contractions are stronger. You will be fine but keep in mind if you feel you need pain meds. you are not a failure you are just human.

Everybody's different. My induction lasted 64 hours and ended with an under-anesthetized c-section. Here's hoping you have better luck.

I was 1 cm when I was induced for high blood pressure. They gave me pitocin at 8 am, started pushing at 4pm, she was born at 5:03. I would do it again in a heartbeat.

Also, I have never heard an induction horror story in real life. You'll be fine. Good luck!

Mine was not the best experience but what about childbirth is?

They started me on something other than pitocin around 8:00 a.m. I can't remember the name, but it's a pill that dissolves in your mouth. After a full day of little to no progress (only about 1 cm by nighttime) they started the pitocin, after which I got the epidural. Though I couldn't feel them the contractions were so fast LO wasn't recovering and his heart rate was dropping, so they stopped the pitocin around 3:00 a.m. and he rallied.

I woke the next day STILL less than 2 cm, so it was back with the pitocin. LO was fine this time but it wasn't until 7:30 p.m. that I was ready to push, after 4 hours of back labor. He wouldn't turn so he ended up being born via c-section at 9:30 p.m.

I think I'm probably one of the only people to have 36 hours of labor after an induction! Let's hope for other mommy's sakes I am a rarity.

I was induced with pitocin because I still had not gone into labor at 41 weeks. I was already at 3 cm and 70% effaced, but had no contractions prior to the induction. I went in @ 5am to start on pit, got and epidural at around 1 pm, and delivered my baby boy at 312pm after 30 minutes of pushing. I had only dialated 1 cm until I got the epidural, as soon as I got the epidural in I dialted to 10cm very quickly. It was a pretty easy labor and neither the baby or me had any complications from the pit. It was way easier than I had imagined it would be. Good luck!!

I can't really call mine a horror story though some might think so.

I was induced due to high BP - started Cervadil Thursday afternoon @ 0cm. 12 hours later, still 0. Pit started around 8 am Friday. Contractions were hard, fast and on top, of each other by 3 pm but I was only 5cm. I took the epi around 7:30 that night so I could sleep. By 11 Saturday morning I had a bit of cervix that wouldn't budge and DD was sunnyside up and couldn't get through so the doc told me it was time to make a decision. I asked her if I had a choice and she said no LOL.

To tell the truth, the c/s was the easiest thing ever! I was up and walking 12 hours later and discharged after 48 hours. I've had no real pain, just some discomfort and soreness. I was able to BF DD as soon as I got to recovery and haven't had any issues there.

I wasnt induced, i arrived at the hospital at 5am, was 7cm dialated and ready to go. Got an epi and it slowed down my contractions so they gave me pit to help me along. I was at 9cm for about 4 1/2 hours, and he wasnt decending. They asked me if i wanted to have a c section, which i refused, and then 30 mins later after my doctor kept coming in and telling me how she had absolutely no confedience that he was going to come on his own, i was sent to the OR. He was born via c-section, a scary c-section but like one poster said, what childbirth ISNT scary? However it happens, just know you can make it though and your LO will be in your arms in no time !

I had a great induction. I was 2cm and 50% effaced when I went in on my due date. The pitocin was started at 7:00am and by 7:30 I was 3cm and my doc came in and broke my water. She told me it would be a very long day/night if she didn't break my water so I was ok with it. Wow as soon as she did that I asked for an epidural at 8am. You definitely do not want to wait to ask for the epidural - what if it takes them an hour to get to you? It only took 15 min for them to get to me, but my gosh it seemed like forever. I should have asked for it sooner. Once I got the epidural I was completed relaxed and even took a little nap. At 11:00 the nurses checked me and said it was time to call the doctor that I was 10 cm, completely effaced and the baby's head was about to come out. My doc arrived pretty soon and I started pushing at 11:25 and my baby was born face up at 11:37am. Pretty fast induction and pretty easy despite her being face up. You'll hear alot of horror stories, but there are alot of good experiences as well. I was sooo nervous when I went in that mornin that I was crying. But everything turned out fine. It will be ok!

I was induced. I was so anti-pitocin and anti-induction for so long and will never knock induction again- I think if it's well managed, it can be just fine. Mine was very well managed. I spent 5.5 hours in labor, 1 hour of pushing and out came my son.

My body is a little traumatized from the delivery itself, but as far as the pit goes, nada.

I was afraid to give birth and was honestly hoping for a c-section. But now I'm glad that things didn't turn out that way. I was given pitocin and had my son less then 3 hours later. My delivery went so quickly that the nurse actually delivered my son for me. The only thing I would suggest is getting the epidural

I was induced at 37 weeks for high bp. I went in at 7 am, however pitocin was not started until 830 am. I was 4 cm and 90% effaced before arriving at the hospital. My doctor broke my water at 8 am. I had maybe 7 contractions before the epidural was in. BTW, I loved the epidural!! I was ready to push at 1045 am but had to wait for my doctor to drive across town. My LO arrived at 1150 am. Great experience for a first time mom!

I wasn't induced exactly, but I did have a pretty good experience with Pitocin.My water broke at 2am and by 7:30am I was still not having any contractions (despite having had them every day for the previous 3 weeks!) so they had me come in. They let me walk the halls for 3 hours with no results so they started Pitocin at 10:30am. (I was already 4cm dialated and 50% effaced and had been for several days.) I made it to 7 cm by myself and then the pain got so bad that I asked for the epidural. It was a good thing I got it when I did. My contractions came so hard and fast that I was at 10cm within an hour. I started pushing at 3:00pm and it soon became apparent it was going to take a lot of work to get him out. He was sunnyside up and a little stuck on my pubic ridge. They were using the vaccuum with limited success. The Dr. finally told me I had one more chance to push him out before they took me for a c-section because his heartrate was all over the place. So I doubled my efforts and out he came at 6:23pm! I feel like if I hadn't had the epidural I would never have had the energy to push him out. I was very anti-epidural going in, but I would not do another Pitocin aided labor without it!

I had 31 hours, so I'm right there with ya.

I had 40 hours of labor, so I am right there with both of you.

Inductions can be extremely hard (both mentally and physically) so that is something that you should prepare yourself for.

I had 2 rounds of pitocin and 40 hours of labor before Charlotte was finally born.
