what crock pot do you have?

i have a smaller sized crock pot now that's the round cylinder style.  i find it kind of small for specifically making pasta sauce which i like to do so i don't have to babysit the pot as much to make sure the bottom doesn't burn.  so i'm thinking about getting another larger pot.  what do you use, what size/shape is it, is it manual or fancy, and most importantly do you like it and what do you make the most in it.  lol - that's a lot of questions huh?

  • I have two.  One comes with three sizes of crock. I use the two quart in that one the most.  It's a no frills.  Put the crock in select the size and turn on low or high.  I make stuff in that when it's just DS and I eating.  The other is a 6 qt. oval that you can choose from 4, 6, 8, or 10 hours (it's not manual but it's not super fancy like some of the ones on the market now and it was a wedding gift 6 years ago that has gotten a lot of love).  It automatically goes to warm after the set time.  It's great because I make chili in that a lot for winter time meals.  I've made sauce in there.  I've made my orange curry in there as well.  And my crock actually smells like all those wonderful flavors even after repeated washing.  It doesn't smell bad I promise and it doesn't leave its smell in the foods I'm cooking either.

  • I have the standard cylinder one, and a 7-quart oval crock pot brand one that I use for roasts, pulled pork, and lots of food. Both of mine have the little dial that's "off," "low," "high," or "keep warm."

wait, you have one that lets you use multiple sizes?  how does that work?  does the inside adjust so the heat hits the walls of whatever crock you use?  that sounds neat though maybe a pain to store?

  • I have a basic Hamilton Beach oval 6qt. that I use for sauce & larger batches of soup (like if I'm going to freeze half), then a Crockpot brand programmable one with a divider that I use more for every day meals.

  • Yes.  It's made by Hamilton Beach.  The heat is supposed to travel up the sides when one of the larger crocks is in the heating unit.  I keep them in the box and will take out the size I need as needed and put it away after cleaning.  The two quart crock is what stays out on a regular basis in the heating unit and is sitting on my kitchen table along with my oval crock.  And I just fill them as the day calls for and we serve/eat at the table.
  • i have a standard Rival one with a handy travel insulated bag. I like it fine, however, I recently read about a lot of crocks leaching lead into heated foods. If I'm not mistaken, Cuisinart, Hamilton-Beach, and a few other pricey brands were found not to contain or leach.

  • I just did a lot of research on crock pots and bought a new one.

We ended up picking the Hamilton Beach Stay/Go, manual style. We felt that there were too many negative reviews of the electronic control version where people were saying their food shut off too early and they had to throw out their food since they had no clue what time it had gone off.

Hamilton Beach is getting good reviews right now and they are rumored to be lead free, which was a concern in the ceramic insert.

We thought we loved our rival, but it broke after about 5 years and now that we have the  HB we love it much more.

We got the 6qt oval style and it has a spoon rest in the lid, as well as a lid rest.

  • i have a rival/crock-pot oval that i use for  bigger stuff. i like that it is automatic so you can set it to 10/8/6/4 hours then it switches to keep warm. I have a smaller round one, probably the same as yours, that is manual (just high.low/off) that I like, too. just depends on how much I am cooking which one I use.
