Mirena vs other options

How did you decide on your bc?  I don't think I can remember the pill anymore and I'm bfing for the next year.  Any suggestions?

Re: Mirena vs other options

  • I cant take a pill daily to save my life. I didn't want a ton of hormones going through my bloodstream, and I wanted to get rid of my heavy PP periods. Plus DH is now spoiled because we haven't been having to use condoms.

I got it yesterday so we'll see how it goes. So far so good.

just a little side note, the hormone thats in the Mirena makes you feel like crap the day after :(

  • After DS#1, I chose to go back on BCP because I used it in the past and felt comfortable with using it. This time, I'm not so sure. I've been researching Mirena and it sounds good. Although, I've had a couple people say that they had to have it reinserted twice and one person said it wouldn't stay in at all for them (they had to shell out the money for it each time it failed).

So, I'm really undecided. I am going to wait for my pp check-up with my OB and discuss with her then.

  • I have the Paragard IUD. It's a copper IUD. I have had bad reactions with hormone birth control. So far I think it's great.
  • My doctor is suggesting Mirena.  BCP make me a crazy person but I'm a little scared of an IUD. Still, doctor stressed to me that it can be very dangerous to get prenant too soon after a c section so I'll need to decide on something.

My sister was super sick when she had one.  Also my husband said a lady at work had a baby two days after us and they were using an IUD so is it less effective?

  • I'm on Paraguard (non-hormonal IUD) and I completely love it! I didn't have any side effects and the doctor even had to tug on my cervix to get it in. Its super nice because I don't have to remember to take the pill. And I was told that it should be 99,9% effective for at least two years, and that they should check it when I go in for a pap smear. HTH!
