It seems way to soon to start cutting back...

But working out most days of the week is really taking a toll on my body.  I have worked out 6-7 days a week for years, so I really thought I would be one of those women who had no problems working out right up until delivery... but anymore, 3 miles and 15 or 20 minute work-out video really beat me up...and I am already walking most of my 3 miles and now take at least 2 days off a week.

Is anyone else having this problem?  How do you keep going?  I am so sore and so tired every evening I work-out I can barely walk from my couch to my bed...  WTH!!???

Re: It seems way to soon to start cutting back...

  • I went through a period of time that I felt way too exhausted to work out, so I just took it easy.  I still did what I could, but didn't push myself.  Now, I'm 31 weeks and still working out.  I'm not doing anything close to what I was doing before pregnancy (running/kickboxing/lifting heavy weights), but I am walking 2-3 miles a day and circuit training with light weights.  I am happy that I've kept it up this long.  I feel great and hope to keep working out until the baby comes!

  • This summer I ran a good 5+ miles a day. Since I got pregnant I was honestly a little scared to run so I would do the eliptical instead. Last week I tried to run again and had a really hard time. I guess I am nervous about getting my heartbeat too high and so forth. So I think I am right there with you.
  • no i have not find the problem!
    just get married
  • Thanks ladies, I think I am going to try incorporating a little more walking and a little less jogging.... ( I just get impatient walking, I want to jog!)  I feel great while i am working out... it's later that day that no matter how much I stretch and rest afterwards I am so sore and soooo tired.  DH actually gets mad at me now when I get a good work-out in because he knows I will be hurting later...

well thanks at least for listening to my vent... just frustrated!!

  • listen to your body and just do what you can. I remember going through that about the same point and just adjusted my workouts, but still exercised 5-6x/week.

As long as you keep up something, you will get back in shape fairly quick. In the third trimester, I was pretty much just walking 3-4 miles a day and when I was given the green light to run at 5 weeks post partum, I was able to start running 3 miles right away and now at 10 weeks post partum, I am back to my usual pace and feeling great.

  • It happens. My workouts got a lot wussier when pregnant and then started to taper off in the third tri. Don't beat yourself up. Your body is working harder all the time so it's not hard to see why exercise could get harder, too.

I think shortening your workouts is totally reasonable and will still give you some benefits. Goodness knows my 5 day a week gymrat schedule fell apart a long time ago and I feel like a total pansy using light weights and plodding along on the elliptical, but every little bit helps, right?
