The doctor told us this afternoon that he wanted to do a car seat test on Cameron to make sure he is able to handle the 2 hour ride home and much more. Unfortunately, he didn't pass. He's new to Cameron's case because our previous doctor was, well, caught in a mess. This new doctor told us to go out and invest in this new car seat and a bunch of other things to help Cameron handle the ride home. They won't do the test again until Saturday. Has anyone else been told this? My fianc?e and I are off tomorrow so if I get similar reviews on this new car seat and other aides then I want to be able to get this. I don't think he's wrong by any stretch of the imagination, I just want to be.....reassured I suppose. Thanks!
Re: the car seat test
We also passed with a Chicco keyfit. Kate was 4 pounds. (My other DD Lauren failed 3x.....)
They are both home now.... some LOs need a carbed....and some are fine in the seat. Kate was smaller and passed..... Lauren was larger...and didn't. GL to you!!
Do not add anything, that did not come with the carseat and can interfer with the straps, regardless of what your doctor says. I work on a mom/baby unit and we have carseat tech's on staff. They say this is a HUGE no-no. Doctors are not well trained in car seat safety. The car seat tech at my hospital have a shocking amount of training and education to do what they do. They say the only acceptable ways of adding support is:
-you can roll recieving blankets and place along the sides of baby, after she is already buckled in.
-If there is a lot of space betweeen the baby and the buckle that goes between her legs, you can roll a wash cloth and place it in that space, so she doesn't slide down.
-When they are testing her, make sure the carseat is level, using the level build into the seat. A lot of nurses don't know you need to makes sure the car seat is at the same angle at the bedside as it will be in the car. When the car seat is just placed on the floor/in the crib it causes the babies head to fall forward a little bit, which can make or break a carseat test.
Do not let them add anything that goes behind your LO's back, or under her bottom. That puts your baby in a dnagerous situitation if you were to get in a wreck.
Some little ones are just not going to pass, regardless of the extra steps and might need some O2 to go home with for car rides. Good luck!
DD passed in the Chiccco KeyFit 30 at 3lbs 13 ounces with the insert in. Good luck!
We also passed on the Chicco KeyFit 30, and LO was also exactly 5 lbs as well. The Chicco comes with the booster infant insert, so there is no need for you to purchase a separate one. I love our the Chicco carseat, I highly recommended. I did a lot of research and Chicco was by far the best that I found.

Great, thank you so much! We're feeling a lot more confident than we were earlier. Big day tomorrow!
