Moving to North Carolina

Hi Everyone,
I have lived in Southern California my whole life, and come January we will be moving to NC. We will be living in Wake County.
I am really excited but also terrified. My family and best friends are here. My whole life is here and when we get to NC I won't have a friend in site. DH's parents live there, which will be nice, but it's not the same.
It's scary to move to an area that I am unfamiliar with...I am sure I will get lost plenty of times!
What do you ladies (if you are also in wake county)? Any ideas for a new mother in a new town? Do you do play groups and things?
Sorry for the ramble...I bought our plane tickets tonight and it hit me like a ton of bricks. I don't want to say goodbye to those I love.

First, your baby is adorable!
I relocated from Colorado 5 years ago and it was a huge change---but NC is great. I left all my family and friends behind and had to start all over. I will say , I have met the most wonderful friends here. All of my closest ones I met on this board.
Wake County is HUGE, but there are a few play groups. We have a triangle area stay at home mom's play group that is great. (Wake county) We also have weekend GTG's and MNO/MNI's so working moms can attend things too. Once you get here let us know and we can give you all the info to check it out! All the ladies are great and we have a great time.

I lived in SoCal for 7 years (did grad work in UCI, lived near South Coast Plaza for while, and worked in downtown LA for 2 yrs). Where are you at?
Wake Co. is very different but great! I love the people, scenery and weather. There's no traffic to deal with like in LA! (but of course, what consitutes traffic is different depending on what you're used to).
Good luck with the move. We have a lot great mommies on the board and in the area.
Welcome to NC! We also packed up our whole lives about 6 years ago and move from Rhode Island to NC, and we love it and would never move back. I also have no family in the immediate area (they are about 3 hours away) but we've made some good friends and I've gotten active in a lot of mommy groups. There are tons of things to do and lots to get involved in.
I live in Wake Forest and we love it here!
I moved here (Cary too) 5 years ago - was scary at first of course... funny thing is that there are A LOT of people in Wake Co. that are NOT from Wake Co. - so, a lot of people are in the same boat where they don't have family here - and make friends easily since 1. a lot of people are transplants and 2. no family around. I also found it a lot easier to make friends once I had my daughter - one of my good 'mommy' friends I randomly met at a consignment sale - we exchanged emails and have been friends ever since.
Besides the moms that meet up on this board, there are lots of other groups via the internet - meetup.com has a Cary moms meet-up, trianglemommies.com, etc. I am sure that you will make friends very easily and I'm sure that anyone on this board would always love another mom to hang out with
