I personally prefer Spanx. I've tried a couple other brands, but I like them the best. The thing with them is you really have to make sure you're in the right size, otherwise they won't work. If you look at the size chart on the back and are in the three closer rows to the next size, make sure you buy the bigger size. Seriously, makes a world of difference.
Which Spanx did you try? I hate the higher power ones.
ETA- If you go to Nordstrom, they have a great collection of shapewear (including the higher level spanxs). They're really good about helping you find something you like as well.
Macy's also has a fairly extensive collection of shapeware. I use something that looks kind of like a wresting outfit (to the thigh, no sleeves etc...) but it holds everything in.
Since the rapid weight loss, I'm in a weird lumpy stage so it definitely helps until my skin catches up!
