Ok, so i am 19 weeks pregnant right now. I will not start saying that I am 5 months pregnant until I am in my 20th week, when I am a full 5 months pregnant and into my 6th month (ie, 5 months and 1 week, etc). You know, like a birthday. I'm 23, so im currently living my 24th year of life and have lived a full 23 years.
I have a friend on facebook who is still 4 weeks and a few days out from her due date, but says she is 9 months pregnant.
Which way is the correct way? Ps..i hope im not explaining this totally confusingly.
Re: Months/Weeks pregnant-im confused.
I don't use months at all, which sometimes confuses my non-parent coworkers. Weeks makes more sense to me.
But at any rate, if I were your friend, I'd say that I'm 8 months pregnant. If you say you're 9 months, it sounds like you're past your due date.
I hate when people ask me how many months. It makes so much more sense as weeks but when people insist on having months instead of weeks, I just I'm in a certain month (like I'm in my 5th month). This way I can say it for awhile and no one really keeps track.
There was a cool link someone posted on a different board that broke it down but I can't remember it. I'll try to find it!
If she's 4 weeks from her due date, isn't she 9 months pregnant? She hit the nine month mark at 36 weeks, just like at 20 weeks you will hit the 5 month mark. If you take 40 weeks and divide by 4 weeks per "month," you get 10 months.
ETA: sorry, I said 32 weeks, and meant 36.
This site is super helpful and breaks down the weeks and months:

I don't say the months - period. Sorry, I'm weeks pregnant, not months. My OB doesn't tell me I'm "four months" or "in my fourth month" or whatever, it's "18 weeks" (I hit "4 months" since LMP at 17.5 weeks, so you can't even really depend on dividing by four).
Though, for the record, since pregnancy is 40 weeks, your friend is 36 weeks, and is dividing by 4 and getting 9 months. It has nothing to do with being in the ninth month or anything like that. I would bet.
I go strictly by weeks. This my 3rd pregnancy and I still haven't figured the "months" out...so I give up.

Someone explained it a good way to me, this is KIND of how you could see it. At 20 weeks you are 5 months and at 23 weeks and 6 days you are 5 months STILL, but at 24 weeks you are 6 months...so this is what I go by IF someone asks me how many months I am...
1-4 = 0-1 month 12-16 = 3 months 24-28 = 6 months
4-8 = 1 month 16-20 = 4 months 28-32 = 7 months
8-12 = 2 months 20-24 = 5 months 32-36 = 8 months
36-40 = 9 months
Now I know a lot of people would think this is a BS made up calendar, but I am just saying, IF someone asks you month wise, I kind of go by this and explain that a full pregnancy is 40weeks and 6days, making you 1 day short of going into the start of 10 months. Hope this helps a little. :-)
Dividing by 4 weeks to figure out how many months along you are works well early in pregnancy, but each month (except February) has a few days more than 4 weeks. So the later in pregnancy you are, the less accurate it is. For example, if you divide 40 weeks by 4, you get 10 months. . . but you're actually at 9 months and a little over a week.
Ok, I'm a nerd.
