What's your typical night like?

As in the normal sleeping hours.   Just curious as to what kind of sleeping issues everyone is going through right now.

Me: I go to sleep around 11-11:30p.  I usually don't have any issues falling asleep.  I wake up once in the middle of the night, as early as 2am or as late as 6am to go to the bathroom.  I have to cautiously and slowly get out of bed to minimize the sharp abdomen pains (thanks to whoever suggested keeping your legs together to help with that!).  Then, I have to try to balance my best on my left leg as much as possible to avoid what I'm guessing are sciatic nerve pains in my right leg.  After the bathroom, the pain is significantly reduced and I get back in bed.  More often than not, I'm back asleep in less than 10 minutes, but other nights (like last night) I'm up for a good hour or two :(.  Then, I'm up for the day by 7:30a and get ready for work.

Re: What's your typical night like?

  • I go to bed around 10pm and toss and turn for about 30 minutes b/c I can't catch my breath, my hips hurt and LO decided to have a party and keep me up.  I finally fall asleep and wake up around 1am to pee and again it takes me forever to fall back asleep....I then wake up again around 3 for no reason and fall back asleep only to be woken by my alarm reminding me to take my procardia.  I normally fall back asleep until the alarm goes off at 5:15 for DH to get up for work.  I then fall in and out of sleep until about 6:30 when DH comes in to say goodby and that's when I switch to the couch for a long day on the couch.

Considering I don't sleep through the night I'm never really exhausted and have yet to take one nap while being on bedrest

  • My nights are really similar, except I maybe get in bed around 10:30 and actually start trying to go to sleep around 11 or 11:30. I'm actually falling asleep really quickly, within 5 minutes, these days. I wake up between 1-2 times to go the bathroom, if it's later in the night (3am or "later") I have the whole Braxton Hicks/ hard belly thing until after the bathroom.

I've mostly been able to fall back asleep but there were two occasions this week when I was awake for a few hours after that point. One time LO was going to town, so that may have been a distraction. I get up between 6:15 and 6:30am for work and feel tired all day. If I have the chance to "sleep in" I'm still up between 7:30 and 8am.

  • I lay down around 9-10is & usually fall asleep w/o much trouble. Most nights I wake up between 1-3 to use the bathroom.

Aside from bathroom breaks, I wake up prob 3-5 times a night to switch sides. Whichever side I lay on, that hip ends up throbbing. I bought a body pillow which has helped a lot, but not quite enough.

Switching sides proves to be rough sometimes too. To move the bulky body pillow that's under the comforter w/ a dog who loves to snuggle isn't always easy. She doesn't understand why she can't be all up in my business like she's use to.

I usually fall back asleep pretty easily. On the nights when I'm up hourly though, I certainly don't feel well rested come time for the alarm to go off (between 4:30 & 6:30).

  • Go to bed at 10pm, and DH turns on the TV.  I'm usually asleep before the first commercial break, 2nd at the latest.  Wake up somewhere between 2-3:30 to go to the bathroom.  Try to get up without being in pain or waking up DH & the cats (they cry if I wake them up, which then wakes DH).  Hobble to bathroom, then back to bed.  Try to get back in bed & comfortable without waking DH or the cats.  Usually I fall back to sleep pretty quickly, but maybe once every two weeks I just toss & turn from then until the alarm goes off at 6:00.  Snooze twice, up at 6:15 for the day.

  • I turn off the TV by 9:00-9:30 and fall asleep quickly. I wake up to pee about 3x per night and generally stay in the same position all night long. Crazy dreams.
  • I usually go to bed between 9 & 10, I prop my pillows all around, and get comfy then it takes me about 10 minutes to fall asleep. My H gets home from work between 11-12 depending on the trains, so he kisses me goodnight and I get up to pee for the first time. Up for the second time around 2, then the last time around 4-430. I wake up for good at 6, when my cat insists on breakfast. I can usually fall back to sleep after being up fairly quickly so that hasn't been a problem. Although my sides are starting to ache from sleeping on them :(

  • I can't keep my eyes open past 9:30! I usually fall asleep quickly, and then wake up somewhere around 3 to pee. After that, its usually a lot harder for me to fall back asleep and I toss and turn until I get up at 6. Unless I get a really lucky night like last night when I fell right back asleep after going to the bathroom. Feels good to be well rested!
  • I go to bed as soon as I get home from work, which is around 6pm, I fall asleep, wake up at 9, eat something, fall back asleep, wake up at 12 to pee, fall back asleep, wake up about 4 times during the night to turn, around 4am, I wake up to go pee again,, and I cannot go back asleep for about an hour, finally go back to sleep around 5.30, then at 6.10 get up and start my day all over again.

  • I go to bed at around 10-10:30. It takes me at least 15 minutes to go to sleep. Lately I get up at least 3 times a night to pee....there were a couple of nights this week where it was around 5 times, ugh! I get up at around 6:30-6:45 for work. On the weekends, sleeping in might be 8:30, but usually 8. I'm sleeping "okay" but of course not as well as I used to. Luckily I have an LO who likes to sleep at night too, I just hope he stays that way on the outside!

  • I go to bed between 9-9:30 and don't wake up until 3:30 when my dog presses his cold little nose against mine. So I get up to pee then, but go back to sleep until my alarm goes off at 5:15. I luckily haven't had any trouble falling asleep quickly or falling back asleep quickly. I've only had 2 or 3 nights total this whole pregnancy where I couldn't sleep. I'm going to be miserable if/when I start not being able to sleep through the night.

  • I go to bed around 11:30, and get up to pee 2-3x. Back pain wakes me a few times too. Plus DD usually cries out a couple times, and even though DH goes in to soothe her, I still wake up when I hear her. Sometimes I fall back to sleep right away, other times I'm an insomniac for a couple hours. Then she's awake for the day at 6:30 (but again, DH gets up with her) and I usually get up closer to 8.

All in all, probably 5-6 hrs of broken sleep, which is so much better than the first 15 months of DD's life. Not looking forward to the all-night nursing buffet starting up again in January.
