2nd Trimester

Daily headaches...is this a gender thing?

I have been getting daily headaches since about week 11 or 12 (going on 4 weeks straight!). I have spoken to my OB and she says it isn't uncommon and to make sure I am drinking plenty of water.   She said it is too early for preeclampsia and I am not anemic and I should just take tylenol (which doesn't really help). Has anyone else had this?  I had it for about a week when I was pregnant with my son, but this is much longer and more intense.   Does anyone know if this is suppose to be correlated with a boy or girl baby....or is that all nonsense?

  • Nonsense

  • That's what I thought.  I actually did one of those wive's tales quizes when I was pregnant with my son and it told I had an 95% chance of having a girl. Ha!
  • I'm having the same issue.  It's a hormone/blood thing, and my doc gave me Lortabs which aren't helping at all.  Sucks.
  • I'm inclined to say nonsense.

  • Nonsense!

I know the feeling though... I had terrible headaches up until about 19 weeks!  Hope you start to feel better soon.

  • has anyone else had such an extended bout?
  •  I had horrible headaches during this (girl) pregnancy and never with my son. That being said Tylenol didnt ever help, so I started seeing, and loving a chiropractor. Try it!

  • I'm going to go with......nonsense. The only thing that can tell you the sex of your baby is an ultrasound or an amniocentesis. If there was any way to predict other than medical intervention then it would've been figured out ages ago.

  • I get headaches very frequently - not every day but close, and always at about the same time in the afternoon. They're not mind-splitting, but annoying - and make me super crabby. I'm sure they're exhaustion/work related. I talked to my doc about them earlier this week, and she suggested drinking a little bit of caffine when it starts to come on instead of taking tylenol. She was very specific - not starbucks or super bold - but some light caffine can do it.  I haven't had any caffine since BFP, but am going to give it a try next time - GL!

  • I have had them too and they are intermittent now. I find that drinking a little bit of caffeine really does help. Also, during pregnancy your eyesight changes. If you read a lot or on the computer frequently make sure you are taking breaks to let your eyes rest and readjust.

  • It's complete and utter none sense...and anyone that would even entertain this idea has me really wondering about them, and not in good "I can't wait to get to know this person" kind of way.

Headaches happen with pregnancy it's nothing special or unique to the sex of the baby. They suck and that's that. There are lots of ways to deal with the headaches, massage, ice, caffeine etc.

  • I had pretty bad headaches at the start of 2nd tri. Everyday for a few weeks. And then one day, they just kind of went away.

Cope however you can and hope they go away soon.

Also, my dr suggested bringing my computer screen more to eye level so I'm not looking down at it and getting a more supportive pillow. Both helped relieve the tension in my neck, which helped ease up my headaches.

  • The gender correlation is nonsense.  I had really bad migrains that would last for days and when I talked to my doctor she actually prescribed something.  You might want to let your doctor know the next time you see her that the Tylenol isn't helping is there anything else you can take.
  • I've also had the headaches just about every day since around 10 wks. My mom told me it must be a boy, becuase she had the same thing with my brother but no headaches with me.  Definitely an OWT or just nonsense, but in my case, it was true. I'm having a boy!

  • Headaches and gender sound like an OWT.

I had bad headaches in the 2nd Tri. and my Dr. wrote me a Rx for Tylenol 3's (Tylenol with codeine) which took the headaches away, OTC Tylenol didn't do anything for me.

  • Nonsense on the gender thing.  Mine were terrible for about 6 weeks from weeks 13-19.  Tylenol and caffeine were what my OB "prescribed".

  • I had lots of headaches during 2nd tri. It's called sex prevention. :)

  • Haha...Viola.  So true!
  • Nonsense, I am having twin girls and have had constant headaches but mine is from my sinuses being so clogged up.

  • I experienced exactely what you are talking about.  Bad headache everyday and Tylenol wouldn't help.  For me, it lasted during weeks 11 through about 16 or so.  I found that the only thing that helped was to have a can of caffeinated soda with my lunch everyday.  I still will get headaches now occasionally, but not as often as before.  Hopefully your headaches will end soon!
  • Yes, my doctor recommended caffeine too....I have taken the chocolate route to try to get it but maybe I should switch to soda or a little coffee.
