Are DH and I overreacting?

DH and I joined the local Y a few months ago so we could start working out more.  They have a child watch there that has been great up until tonight.  We dropped DS off, but the two women running the child watch were new to us.  Neither of them greeted us or DS.  DS seemed uncomfortable, but he tends to be shy.  We left him with his jacket on. (they have always taken it off in the past and have told us they would take care of it)  They didn't remove his jacket, which wouldn't have been a big deal except it was falling off and he was struggling.

The part that DH and I are upset about is that for the twenty minutes DS was in the child watch the two women sat at the table coloring.  They colored by themselves.  None of the children in the room were any where near them.  We decided to leave and I went in to get DS.  He was crying when I walked in and he ran over to me.  The left side of his face was scraped and red.  Neither girl even realized he was crying let alone know what happened.  I get that kids fall, but to not even know that he was crying is what I just don't get.

We are extremely upset and requested that the manager call us.  I feel that this is unacceptable.  Are we overreacting?  Sorry it got so long.

Re: Are DH and I overreacting?

  • You are NOT over-reacting.  I would have done the same AND I would have spoken to the girls right then and there, too.

I hope the issue is resolved.  Sounds like the girls are there to just make a buck by showing up.

  • You're not overreacting.  At the very least, it's poor customer service and at the most, they were incredibly neglectful.  You should definitely talk to the manager and be very specific.

  • NOT overreacting. I would be super pissed. And I probably would have said something to the girls as well.
  • You are NOT overreacting.  You should definitely call a manager!

  • Not over-reacting.
  • Oh, I would be upset, too! Especially if it looked like they were just ignoring the kids. I would definitely say something to the manager. Your poor little guy. :(

  • I gave the girls an earful.  The one girl just kept saying sorry, so it wasn't very meaningful.  The other girl wouldn't even look me in the eye and didn't say a word.  DS was so upset.  He has never been that way at the child watch. I felt so bad for him, but I'm glad DH and I ended our workout early because we saw he was being neglected.

  • Two grown women sitting and coloring by themselves??  What the?

No, you're not overreacting.  I wouldn't want to take my LO back.

  • I would have done the exact same thing.

  • I don't think you're over-reacting.  I would want to talk to their supervisor, as well as the manager of the whole facility.  Honestly, I would pretty much insist that they not be there again, because you joined with the intention of leaving your child there while you work out, and if you can't leave him there safely because those two can't watch him, then you're going to have no choice but cancel your memberships, and I would be chatty about it too, and tell everyone I know that has a membership, if they didn't resolve the issue.  That is absolutely uncalled for.
  • I would have been pisssed.  Definitely did not overreact!

  • No way, you are not overreacting !!!  I would be beyond pissed.  I can't believe that they would hire someone like that and that both of those girls were so careless.  I hope the manager calls you and those two are no longer working there.

I'm sorry that your DS was hurt and not taken care of properly.

  • Not overreacting at all!!  I would definitely be speaking to the manager of the facility.  You should take a photo of the scratch on LO's face too and show it to the manager.

  • That is completely unacceptable. I don't think that the managers should call you though, I think you should call them. Don't give them a chance to prep the managers with their version of the story, and don't wait around for them to give the manager a message they may never get. Call the manager and complain. That is not okay.

    ETA: And please update us!!!!
