When are you taking LO to the dentist?

I've heard that you should take LO to the dentist before their fist birthday, but I'm wondering if it's actually worth it. Of course I want DD to have healthy teeth but I don't want to scare her by taking her to the dentist too early. Does anyone have any experience with this? Thanks.

    It's recommended that you take them within 6 months of getting their first teeth.  I won't take Zane until he's 15 months old at least.  That's when I first took my older two boys and they got every 6 months.  At 12/15 months they don't really do much.  They just look at what teeth baby has, to see if they're growing in properly, looking for any damage from say a fall or bumping their mouth on something.  It's a whole lot more then just cleaning their teeth.  My older boys are great at the dentist.  They look forward to going every time.  I don't know if they'll feel that way soon...my 3 yo (he'll be 4 in January) is getting an expander next month (his poor mouth is so messed up) and my oldest who will be 6 in December will be getting an expander in Arpil.

    When Dh & I go for our checkups next month, our dentist is going to take a peek at E's teeth. She has a mouthful so I am glad she will have them looked at.

    I already called our pediatric dentist.  They said that the first visit is more about telling me how to care for her teeth and showing me how to brush them and stuff.  They do a cursory cleaning of the LOs teeth but that's about it aside from a visual inspection.  If I want to take her in they start around 1 1/2. 

    I worked for a dentist for 5 years.  I was the person that did the cleaning after the dentist did the scraping and inspection and stuff.  Not a hygenist but a dental assistant.  I did all the xrays and molds and stuff.  I know how to take care of her teeth.  We brush them after breakfast and dinner every day.

    I'll take her around 2yrs or so.

    Ok, maybe I'll wait until closer to 15 months. She only has 2 teeth that just recently came in so that would be about 6 months from now. I can't see her sitting still for too long right now...or really in 6 months, but we'll see!
