Snarky and T-TTC

Veins no longer cooperating

Got stuck in both arms today, and lots of needle moving in both. I know I have at least two more days of blood draws just for the study, and then after that probably still daily blood draws to check E2 levels (just a guess). Not sure how my arms are going to hold up Tongue Tied

Re: Veins no longer cooperating

  • Drink more water.

I have fiesty veins and being even the least bit dehydrated makes it way worse.

  • oh boo!   I know nothing about veins.  I'd loan you mine if I could.  They are fantastic for some reason.     But yeah, try the staying-uber-hydrated method.   That sounds good to me.

    Sorry.  :(

  • I have veins that never cooperate, and the only advice people could give me was to drink an insane amount of water.  Sorry your veins are rebelling.

  • That sucks, I'm sorry.

Heat and gravity help a lot. If it happens frequently, try this:

Bring a wash cloth and a gallon zipper bag to the lab/ drs office. Wet the washcloth with hot water, wrap your hand in it and then stick it in the baggie for 10 minutes or so before they stick you. You might look foolish, but it helps. I do it all the time for people in the ER. (Not the baggie, we use those chucks pads).

Not super useful, and it looks silly, but it does tend to help.
