Baby Names

Lisbeth

WDYT? Do you think people will start naming their LO's after the Girl With the Dragon Tattoo or was she too *out there* for some folk?

Re: Lisbeth

  • I've heard of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, but I haven't read the book or seen the movie, so I didn't know the name. I think Lisbeth is a beautiful name.

  • See below. I'd name her Elisabeth and CALL her Lisbeth.
  • Lisbeth is a legitimate variant of Elizabeth/Elisabeth. It had it's beginning as a pet name for Elisabeth, but it has long since moved on and is now a given name in its own right.

That said, I don't think "Girl with a Dragon Tattoo" is really popular enough to be inspiring baby-namers the world-over. Perhaps it will inspire some, but, ultimately, the character doesn't have wide enough appeal to start an entire trend, IMO.

  • Not a fan of Lisbeth. I like Elizabeth a 10000x more. I don't know what Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is so I have no idea if people will start using it because of that association.

I've heard of the book/movie but I don't know anything about it either.  I don't think it's that popular (like Twilight) to start a naming trend

  • I've not read that book, but Lisbeth sounds like a toddler or someone with a lisp trying to pronounce Elizabeth.

  • I think Lisbeth as a full name is just a little too cutesy. I like the name Elisabeth a lot though, and think Lisbeth is an adorable NN.

This is exactly what I was thinking! It sounds like someone has pronunciation problems. Seriously dislike it.

  • who knows?  maybe the book's popularity will help to make this name popular.

    i don't particularly like it.

  • I am genuinely surprised that the book is not as popular as I initially thought it was! Anyway, I was just curious :)
  • I have an aunt and cousin named Lizbeth. they go by Liz and Lizzy. I like it, but I know during my wedding/shower people doing the invitations always asked if I forgot the E.
  • I think it's a lovely name. I've never seen this film/movie/whatever-it-is, so I think you're safe.

  • The school I used to work at I once had a Lizbeth.
  • This is an old family name for us, including my mom's middle name and my daughter's middle name.  My mom says that I've cursed my daughter because people always ask "Elizabeth?"  Nope .... Lisbeth.
