2nd Trimester

Why do I feel like I have a UTI all the time?

I have the urge to pee all day long about every other day.  It's not the normal frequent need to pee that you get from being pregnant.  I have that too, but this is more of that UTI/bladder infection feeling where you know there's nothing in there but you feel like you have to run to the bathroom.

I was tested for a UTI about 2 weeks ago and nothing.  Anyone else have this or talked to their Dr about it?

Re: Why do I feel like I have a UTI all the time?

  • Yes, I feel the exact same way! I did have an UTI about 2 months ago, which is when I found out I was pregnant, but I've never felt like it went away, but when the dr has checked, they say I don't have one. It's so frustrating! I'm just going to tell them to check every time I go to the dr.

  • I have that as well and was tested too and nothing???? Maybe our cervix is being kicked and hence that stinging feels like a UTI? Don't know--random shot in the dark?:)

  • I have this!!!  It's been going on for the past two appointments (so for two months) and every time they test, the pee is clean.  My docs said it's just the way the baby is pressing against my bladder.  As long as there is no pain while I'm trying to urinate, everything is cool.

I've had plenty of kidney infections as a kid, so I'm very familiar with that feeling - it's just like right now except no pain.  It wigs me out.  I guess it's just one of those pregnant things.

  • Around 20 weeks I thought I had a UTI but a few days later I was fine. I think the baby was sitting really low. I hate that feeling! I hope you feel better soon.
  • I know this will sound weird, but I notice this when I don't drink enough water or if I've been drinking soda or juice instead of water.  Drinking water will flush out anything that's in there that's irritating your bladder.  Also, it could be the position of the baby.  I notice it more when I'm lying on my left side and the baby is right on my bladder.

This!  When I lay on my left side it happens.  Every time.

  • Same thing here! except I even have that lower abdominal pressure and sometimes it burns a little when I pee, but the pain is nowhere near as severe as a UTI. I've been tested for UTI at my OB's office, and nothing. I work in a Dr's office and I've even run my own urinalysis and cultured my urine a few times between appointments (I know it's wierd) and nothing.

  • I had this for a month or so after finding out I was pregnant.  I was diagnosed with a kidney infection at 5 weeks and then this lovely thing hit after that cleared.  Multiple urine dips and cultures kept coming back negative.  My OB put me on prophylactic antibiotics for the rest of my pregnancy to prevent further problems that could lead to PTL.  Also, I was taking cranberry extract supplements....she suggested stopping those.  With doing both of those things, I've felt much much better.  Hope you get some relief soon.
  • I feel that way too.  It's fun.

  • I just talked to my doctor about this yesterday, they tested me too but nothing.  Every time I sit I have constant pressure on my bladder like I've been holding my pee and I am in the bathroom not even an hour after I go, like I don't let it all out each time or something.

  • Did you have any issues with frequency or bladder before getting pregnant?

I have Interstitial Cystitis which is a chronic bladder condition that esentially makes you feel like you have a bladder infection all the time even though you don't. I don't have pain when I actually pee but I feel like I have to go all the time, BAD even when I know I don't and I have a lot of pain. I was diagnosed before my first DS and for me it gets really bad during during pregancy. A low or no acid diet is very helpful in controlling the symptoms so you may want to consider doing a google search on "IC diet" eliminating the biggest irritants and see if that helps.

Hope you feel better. That is miserable.

  • I just got tested for  UTI last week, since I suddenly had the urge to pee every 5 minutes and it lasted an entire day.  It turned out I did not have a UTI after all... it was Baby A pushing on my bladder.  The next day was fine, and I had a few good days... but today he's doing it again!   Oh well... at least it's not a UTI.  Not a fun feeling though!

  • I feel the same way!  Sucks so bad, because I hate running to the bathroom just to have a little squirt of pee!
